Windows 10: Win 10 taking 3 min to launch link or open Word doc

My Dell Optiplex 980 (Win 10 16.299, 8 gb RAM) has been working fine, until this morning, when on waking up from sleep it abruptly slowed to a crawl. That's 'crawl' as in taking 3 minutes to open Word, another 3 to move from one doc to another in the same directory, 5 min to print a 2-page doc, 3 min to open Gmail. Took 4+ min to launch MS Network Speed Test, which showed download at 9.24 and upload at 9.07 (seems an oddly balanced result). I've done a cold reboot, a Malwarebyte scan, checked system status but found no alarms.

What to do?

Retrieving a WP doc in WIN 10

Using WIN 10 & WordPerfect 12, we created a 3-page doc in WP12 and saved it. Now it is only listed in the WIN file folder , as a WP doc, and will not open from there. Need it today and printed. Can anyone help?

 

Word has gone after reinstalling Windows 10 and word docs won't open

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes I did check for updates and updated all that was availbale. Office/Word did not appear.

There was no error message when I tried to open my docs (which showed as blanks at first) but word pad was the only program on offer when I tried to open my word docs but this didn't work either (just symbols appeared).

I checked the article you suggested. It offered me Office AT $148.

As a "getaround" I downloaded Libre Office from Linux and it opens my word docs just fine, but this does not solve my problem of course.

Any other suggestions would be welome.

Opening a Word doc in a Second Desktop from Explorer

To clarify, the problem is that whenever I try to open another word doc in file explorer in a second desktop it goes back to the desktop in which there already is a word doc open and opens the requested doc there, instead of in the second desktop.

I have tried the repair and it did not help. Any other suggestions?
