  1. win 10 update issues with KB4284835 or later (but much more complicated...)

    Hi All

    Win 10 Pro 64bit, 1803.

Soooo, all my troubles started when I realized that KB4284835 had failed the install about 10 times.

I tried to download and install offline, with no luck. I tried the update trouble shooter, no luck. SFC found nothing, dism couldn't find the source files. More on dism later.

By this time (early July), there were more updated KB's out than 4284835, and none of them would install, giving the 0x80073712 error.

    Then I noted something odd:

I checked to see that both KB4103721 and KB4100403 were installed, which they were - HOWEVER the build no should then have been 17134.81, BUT it was instead showing 17134.1.

So, I thought eureka, I'll just uninstall both of those, go back to the true 17134.1 and go one by one, offline. That worked fine, until I got to KB4338548 (17134.83) and that KB and anything "above" would not install. So I stopped there.

Then i tried SFC again. No errors.

Dism: restore health would not find the source files.

Downloaded the latest creation tool and made an ISO with the install.ESD file and mounted it. Still no "source" files.

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore Store is repairable.

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup Performed and completed.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth The component store is repairable.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth Finishes at various percentages with source files not able to be found.

using DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:ESD:D:\sources\install.ESD:1 /limitaccess (with a mounted image at dwin 10 update issues with KB4284835 or later (but much more complicated...) :)

I'm currently sitting with no KB updates (i.e at 17134.1) with no resolution in site and updates still not working, even with the latest one KB4340917, which still gives 0x80073712.

    Ideas????

    :)

WIN 10 Update Restart issue with KB4284835

    Regarding KB4284835

After some 6 hours of trying different fixes, I have given up. There are several posts with this issue. The last diagnostic I found after booting in safe mode and running the troubleshooter for WIN Update was that one line item was not fixed: "One or more
windows update components is configured incorrectly - not fixed". So apparently Microsoft will need to send out a fix that will correct the issue with this update.

  3. Win 10 update KB4284835 & Excel 2002

Should they also fix issues with the 24 and 21 year old versions Office 95 and Office 97 too?

Your best option if this issue is being triggered by KB4284835 is uninstall and block it.

    Press Windows key + R

    Type: appwiz.cpl

    Hit Enter

    Click View installed updates

    Select KB4284835 then click uninstall.

    Restart.

Windows Update will attempt to install it again.

So enable Active Hours and Restart options:

Use Active Hours and Restart options:

    https://www.groovypost.com/howto/managing-windo...

Microsoft has released a KB update (KB3073930) that will let users block or hide Windows or driver updates.

You can download it at the following link:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

    or

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

After downloading, launch it, click Next, wait while it detects pending Windows Updates.

    Click the Hide Updates menu.

Scroll through the list then select then select the update. Check the box next to the update then click Next to confirm changes.

We have to be realistic about support for software on later releases of Windows.

Does the app take priority over the operating system; or does having the latest version of Windows come first?

In your case, it looks like the application is a priority. So, you should not be running Windows 10 or even running it under versions where its clearly not supported.

The last working version of Windows, Excel 2002 is known to work in would be Windows 10 1703 or earlier.

The right thing for you to do is rollback to your previous version and stick with it or downgrade to Windows 7. Trust me, its not the end of the world.

Microsoft Acknowledges Gaming Performance Issues Under Win 10 Creators Update

yeah, I run Win 10 and Win 7 dual boot on separate ssd's. and to be honest I get better performance in gaming benchmarks and higher fps in Win 7. I prefer Win 10 though just for the look of it(subjective) and never upgraded from the 1607 Anniversary build nor have been offered it through Windows update.
having seen all the issues with the 'Creators' update on the BF1 forums I never had any intention of using it thankfully.
