Windows 10: Win 10 Updates from My PC

I"m having trouble finding information on how to receive Windows 10 updates from "My PC"
I have 2 identical machines, both run Widows 10 Pro, the second machine isn't a daily user basically it just has the OS installed and antivirus software. I like to keep both machine updated. To save bandwidth I have tried updating the second machine by checking receive updates from My PC. To date I have been unsuccessful.
I have a modem/router with 4 local Ethernet ports, I connect the second PC the the modem local Ethernet port but it obtains the current updates form MS Server, not my primary PC which is updated automatically.

Do I require a crossover DSL cable to update the second machine off line?
I would appreciate any help.

re-install Windows 10

My PC was updated from Win 7 to Win 10 for free when it was available. After a recent Win 10 update my PC went into Windows repair screen, but none of the advance options worked. My windows recovery disk does not work either. Can I use a windows recover
disk from another PC to re-install Windows 10 on my PC?

 

Update from win 8 to win 10 failed - If I install on Virtual machine will it help to activate?

my update process from 8 to 10 failed 2 times already.

AS far as I understood, to be able to use my Win 8 CD key on WIN 10 I have to upgrade, and not simply clean install win 10 and use the WIN 8 CD key to activate.

I try to avoid a full reinstall before being sure I can upgrade to win 10.

If I install the WIn 8 on a virtual machine like Oracle VirtualBox with my CD key on my PC (not other), activate it, and then update it to win 10, will then I be able to make a clean win 10 install on my PC and activate it? Will the data for the PC stored
on Microsoft activation servers be the one of my PC?

Or it will be different, as virtual Box simulates the devices, the activator will consider my original PC different than the virtual machine, and my WIN 8 CD key will now only be usable for win 10 in the virtual machine installed on my PC?

 

Have you turned on Updates from more than one place in Settings > Update & security > Windows Update > Advanced options > Choose how updates are delivered?

 

Kari Thanks for your reply. Yes both PCs are selected ON and selected PCs on my local network. I'm thinking I may have to use an Ethernet crossover cable and try updating the second PC OFF line?

 

That will most probably not work.

At the moment I have nothing to suggest, let's hope other members will see this thread and come with other ideas.

 

I have never been able to get it to work either. Seems like all of my PCs pull the updates from the Internet rather than other PCs available on my home network.

 

I believe this was only enabled quite recently in Insider Build 14195.

So I suspect it won't work in 'Regular' Anniversary Update or earlier builds until the next big feature update, which I think isn't until 2018 2017?

 

I've understood it will be March 2017, following current version name policy probably version 1703.
