Windows 10: WIN 11 File Explorer "Sort by Date Modified" Error

I am marking a large number of student scripts each day. The marked ones are saved and archived in a specified folder, up to ca 200 files. The latest one saved is then uploaded to the relevant student's course webpage.When I save a script in Word format, it is saved in date order, at the top of the list -easy to find.When I save a script in PDF format, it is saved at the bottom of the list - a real pain to find.I have tried "resetting" the folder settings - makes no difference. How can I persuade, tell, force, Explorer always to place the latest files at the top of the listing?

Sort files AND folders by "Date Modified" in File Explorer

Hello,

Is there a way to sort folders and individual files by "Date Modified" together? Right now, when I sort by "Date Modified," folders are automatically put at the bottom below files, even if they have been modified more recently than a file. When I'm quickly
scanning a list, this is very distracting. How can I fix this?

I understand that after recent update when you sort the files by Date Modified, the folders are listed at the bottom. We would like to know which update was installed on the computer, to check go to
Start >> Settings >> Update & Security >> Windows Update >> View update history.



However, you can go ahead and try the following steps and see if that helps in listing the folders at top:

1. Open File Explorer and navigate to the location where your files are stored.
   
2. Sort files by Date Modified (Recent files first).
   
3. Hold Shift key and click on the
   Name column. This will bring folders at the top with files sorted with Date Modified.

[WIN 11] File Explorer "Sort by Date Modified" Error

It doesn't happen for every folder, just certain ones, but I've noticed that File Explorer's sort-by-date-modified is working incorrectly, or there's a hidden sorting that also sorts the files by type as well, even though I don't have it chosen. Basically, files that I would have modified/downloaded that day would end up in the middle of older files, or in 3 of the 4 errors, files would be sorted on top of folders or ZIP on top of uncompressed folders, even though I chose "sort by date modified" and insured that the dates were going from most recent to oldest. I have screenshots of this happening. Again, this isn't happening to every folder and file, just (from my search) these four paths (you can see that it's sorted by "date modified" by the down arrow hovering just above the "e" in "modified"):
