Windows 10: Win 11 - How do i get all files from desktop to appear in desktop folder of file exlporer?

Brand new win 11 home machine and i just started cleaning it up and installing apps. When i open the desktop in file explorer only 2 of the 8 items i have on my desktop appear. This is wholly unexpected behavior for any other version or install of windows. Is this a setting issue? how can i fix this? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

windows 10 deleted my desktop files

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

 

User's Desktop folder in Windows 11; files not appearing on desktop

New Windows 11 user and computer here. Backed up all my files from Win10 computer to Dropbox; I don't want to use OneDrive. OneDrive installed on the new computer setup. I deleted OneDrive from Add/Remove Programs. I saw the OneDrive folder still in my profile and deleted it also (there were no files in it). I give you that background info in case it is relevant. I downloaded my Desktop folder from Dropbox into my Downloads folder. I attempted to extract the files to C;\users\nameduser. There was no Desktop folder as I expected there would be. So I went to C:\users\nameduser and created a Desktop folder. I then extracted the files to another dummy folder, ctrl + A to select all, and copy/pasted them in to the C:\users\nameduser\Desktop folder. Restarted the computer and they don't appear. Why? Is something different from Windows 10 to Windows 11? How do I get them to appear on my desktop? BTW - I checked to see if they were hidden and right click on Desktop, View and Show Desktop Icons is checked.

 

Why all my newly created files and folders Encrypted in Desktop?

Every time I create a new folder or file and save it to my Desktop, a gold padlock icon appears on it. I tried the following steps but no use:

1. Go to C:\Users\User_Name and select Desktop folder, right click on it, select properties, then go to Advanced, unchecked the option "Encrypt the option to secure data". Then it shows one error as

"An error occurred trying to apply attributes to the file:

C:\Users\User_name\Desktop

The specific file could not be decrypted" .

2. Open an administrator command line and run "cipher /u /n" to list all the EFS files.

Then run "cipher /d "path to the file"" to decrypt all the EFS files.

Any other suggestions ?
