Windows 10 using IE 11 causing instability and machine lockup

I have a 64-bit machine that was running Windows 7 Ultimate. I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro and didn't like Edge so I opted to use IE 11 as my internet program. I have had a rash of instances where IE 11 would lockup and cause my machine to freeze requiring
a reboot. I didn't have this issue until I upgraded to Win 10. I'm almost willing to believe that Microsoft makes Win 10 incompatible with IE 11 solely to force people to move over to Edge which looks to me to keep track of everything you do over the internet.
It's very privacy invasive unless I'm reading it wrong.

So my question is does anyone have the same issue with IE 11 running on a Win 10 machine and if so have you been able to solve the issue?? This lockup has happened several times and it's becoming a major issue now because I'm usually doing research on the
internet while also writing papers of college classes. Having the computer crash in the middle is not good.
