Win 11 pro: No option to map network drive.

Why don't I have the option to map a network drive/subfolder? I have a WDMycloud EX4100, and if I right click on the "public" folder I can map it, but I can't map a sub folder. Regarding permissions this doesn't make sense. I am the admin and I am logged in as the admin. Any clues? I've seen some suggestions regarding not seeing drives already mapped, but nothing on the right-click option to create a new mapped drive.Bob

  2. Windows 11 Probling with maping a network drive.

    Hello,

Certainly! Here are the steps to map a network drive using File Explorer in Windows 11:

    1. Open File Explorer:
      • Press Windows key + E on your keyboard to open File Explorer.
    2. Navigate to “This PC”:
      • Click on “This PC” in the left pane.
    3. Access the “Map Network Drive” Option:
      • Click the “More options” (three dots) button in the command bar.
      • Select the “Map network drive” option.
    4. Assign a Drive Letter:
      • Use the “Drive” dropdown menu to select the drive letter you want to assign.
      • In the “Folder” field, enter the network path to the shared folder. Alternatively, click the “Browse” button to select the folder you want to map as a network drive.
      • Click “Finish” to complete the assignment.
    5. Enter Login Credentials:
      • When the mapped network drive opens, enter your login ID and password if prompted.
Following these steps will allow you to map a network drive using File Explorer in Windows 11. Remember to use the IP address instead of the computer name if you can’t connect to the shared folder. Additionally, if the resource-providing device uses a password-less Microsoft account, you’ll need to create a local account to establish the connection, as mapping won’t work otherwise.

If it is helpful, could you please select "Yes" about "Was this reply helpful?".

I hope you will solve the problem. And, if you still have problems, feel free to ask us here.

    Best regards,

  4. Win 11 pro: No option to map network drive.

Windows 11 Pro cannot browse to a mapped drive using Add Printer wiard

    I'm hoping someone can assist.

At my work, all of the printer network drivers are stored on a shared network drive.

On Windows 10, the process was:

    1. map a drive on the PC where the network drivers are stored

    2. On the Windows PC, we go to:

    2. Control Panel -> Devices and Printers -> Add a printer -> The printer I want isn't listed

    3. -> Add a printer using an IP address or hostname, then click Next

    4. -> Select TCP/IP Device from drop-down list

    5. -> input the IP Address (ie 10.11.176.226), then click Next

    6. -> click "Have Disk" button

    7. -> click "Browse" button

    8. -> click the drop-down box and select the mapped drive

    9. -> navigate to the correct folder containing the network driver

On Windows 11, the above process works until step #8. In step #8, the mapped drive is not listed.

Windows Firewall is "on", but turning it "off" makes no difference.

Network Discovery is "on", but it makes no difference.

As a work-around, I must copy the folder containing the printer drive to the Windows 11 PC, complete all the steps to install the printer, then delete the folder from the PC.

Can anyone assist on how to allow Windows 11 to browse to a mapped drive from the Add Printer wizard?
