    Win 7 to win 10 udpate: 0x8007001F-0x20006, The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase...


    I've been beating my head against this for the better part of a week - part-time that is.


    Setupdiag confirms I think what setupact.log has been telling me which is that I'm stumbling over something relating to an Optional Component.


    Setupdiag makes the following recommendation:


    Recommend you check the "Windows Modules Installer" service Trusted Installer is started on the system and set to automatic start, reboot and try the update again.


    It might make sense I'm a retired software engineer that the OC problem is because this service isn't running. The problem is that with every reboot the Windows Modules Installer is getting set back to Manual start.


    It would, I would think, be very useful if the Update would give some better indication of the particular Optional Component where you're failing.


    I use msconfig to do a clean boot; have disconnected all hardware except mouse, keyboard and monitor; run from the local Administrator account; and I'm probably forgetting a few things ... such as cleaning out directories such as c:\windows\temp, prefetch and SoftwareDistribution.

    When I tried to install I get the following error.
