Windows 10: Win 8.1 to Win 10 upgrade

Yesterday i purchased Win10 from Microsoft and attempted to upgrade from 8.1. Let me start by saying I did not backup my drives, but I am willing to live with that mistake. I also did not download the OS to a USB for an installation at a later date/time, or so that i could attempt a boot from USB in hindsight I realize the error of my ways.


I began the upgrade process on my desktop, following the directions provided in the prompts from Microsoft once I completed my purchase. It all was going smoothly until 30%. My computer restarted once, and thereafter remained at the 30% mark. I waited at my computer for an hour and a half, with no more restarts or any further progress made.


Now it is approximately 29 hours after it reached the 30% mark and there has still been no progress percentage wise. The load indicator on my computer is not flashing. My computer still had the blue screen with the spinning circle, saying to not turn of my computer, and that it will take a while.


Please help me. Can I simply try to restart my computer? Will this destroy my PC? Will it even work if I try restarting or will I need a disc or USB to boot from with the OS? What is the best way forward?

Upgrading from WIN 8 to Win 10

Can anyone provide a step by step upgrade path/instructions to delete Win 8 and load/run Win 10..

Jessen P -- Thanks for responding. I looked at the link you provided, but it just provides a small list of error codes and possible causes for the error. Didn't see any steps to take to resolve the issue. And none of the listed error codes are the
same as the one I got 0x80070006-0x90016 when I tried to upgrade to win 10.

 

Win 10 boots...

I can't answer to the speed of Win-8 booting. I tried the Win-8 preview and went back to Win-7 after a month. They say that Win-8.1 is a lot better than Win-8 was.
My Win-10 TP is working well ATM.
