Windows 10: win 8.1 with bing update to win 10 problem

Hi My Dad died and left behind a laptop that had win 8.1 with bing on it. I am trying to upgrade it to win 10 with no success.I went to the win 10 upgrade site and ran the tool to upgrade it and everything was going fine until the last steps and it suddenly said "Windows 10 installation has failed". Ok so I did an install of win 8 back to factory settings, saving absolutely nothing and tried again to install windows 10 but the result was the same "Windows 10 installation has failed".The only thing I can see that maybe blocking this is that I think the battery is completely dead as it will no

Win 10 1607 update

Installed the update manually at the the moment everything is bueno.
It seems that Microsoft has a big problem in there update department windows 7 update has problems win 8 update has problems. Windows 10 update is so-so.

Can anyone provide a step by step upgrade path/instructions to delete Win 8 and load/run Win 10..

Win 10 boots...

I can't answer to the speed of Win-8 booting. I tried the Win-8 preview and went back to Win-7 after a month. They say that Win-8.1 is a lot better than Win-8 was.
My Win-10 TP is working well ATM.
