    Win10 2004 Feature Update Failing: 0xC1900101 - 0x20017 VMware 15.5.6 guest


    I have spent all day trying to get the 2004 update to install on my Windows 10 1909 VM. I'm a full-time Linux user but have to maintain a Windows VM for my genealogy software.


    I've followed all of the suggestions at https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...failures/eaf4ff24-64d6-4c72-824c-3ba3df716fc3 but continue getting this error:


    0xC1900101 - 0x20017
    The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation


    At this point I've reset Windows, so it's essentially a clean install with no applications or user data, yet I continue to get this - even with the network disconnected, running from an ISO I created with the Media Creation Tool.

    I would be incredibly grateful for any help resolving this. I had one simple task on my LONG to do list this weekend, and all this failure has swallowed up an entire day.
