Windows 10: Win10 blank screen after updating and rebooting

I just did another clean install of Win10 and all went smoothly except for one problem.

After the updates were installed I rebooted my laptop and then I noticed after coming back from my dinner a blank black screen with not even a mouse cursor. The power button light was ON only with no responses to input, nothing at all.

So I waited and still no response. So I just pressed the power button and the notebook shutdown.

After powering on again the system booted with the configuring updates and now is back to normal.

This was not the first time this happened when after installing Win10. The same happened about a week ago. After many installs like this it happened only twice.


Whenever this happens again, how do I recover without a forcible shutdown?

I'm going to have to install Windows again due to this.

My system is ok now.

I have sleep and hibernation off.

Alienware upgrading W7 Ultimate to W10 stuck

I also have an MX11 that had the same issue when I upgraded to win10 (mobile intel express 4 chipset). I found that if I disable the Nvidia driver in the Device Manager and just use the basic driver that comes with Win10 - the reboot will complete and
will go back into windows 10.

I had to disable right after the Win10 install before rebooting in order to ensure that I wouldn't get stuck with the blank screen and cursor.

I haven't researched if there is an updated Nvidia driver for win10 that works with the MX11

 

Windows 10 Updates - Bitlocker

After upgrading to Windows 10 I didn't have any issues with Bit Locker. When the system would be powered down or rebooted, Bit Locker screen would appear and we could enter our passwords.

An update to Windows has occurred recently in the last couple of days... Now when the computer is rebooted, restarted we get a blank screen instead of the password line for Bit Locker.

Just a blank screen... nothing else...

However, we can key in the password and return and the system continues to boot properly.

However, it is just a blank screen... no words, no fields nothing but a blank screen.

Help!

 

Are you sure it wasn't the plain blank screensaver as that is just a black screen - did you move your mouse or press esc key to see if it cleared the screen?
If it is the black screen problem & not the screensaver try ctrl alt delete to see if it clears the screen.

 

I tried everything hitting keys moving mouse...

Usually after a reboot it goes to the lock screen. But no, just blank black screen with no responses to input.

After a forced power off my system booted and continued finishing updates.

How I recover from this if it happens?
What keys do I have to hit?

I don't want to force a shutdown which is bad for the hdd.

 

You can try the ctrl alt del combo, I've had success with that, can't say why it works though.

 

Reinstalled Win10 again, done all the updates and rebooted and now this time it's ok.

What could of caused this to happen?

How can I reboot without a full shutdown when this occurs again?

Remember the issue was before the lock screen.

 

I've had the problem coming out of sleep, the screen remains blank/black but the Carl alt del combo worked for me.
It can be fine for weeks or months but then it'll happen, no change unless it's a Windows update which resets something - display drivers up to date (I have dual graphic cards - nVidia & IntelHD).
