They were reprimanded before about being monopolistic. They apparently have forgotten the past. If you go to PC Settings, Choose Default App by Protocol it is such a mess. When you click "Choose a Default" it doesn't even offer you the option of choosing an existing program on your computer! How tyrannical can they get? You have to open the program first then jerryrig the system to accept your chosen NON Microsoft program because it's inevitably far superior allowing far more user control. But they DO give you the option of the Microsoft Store which often doesn't even work properly, ju

  3. Try3 Win User
Application not showing in default app

Do this for each file extension you want to set up to run with your chosen application: 1 Right click on a file with the file extension you want to set up, 2 Open with, 3 If the one you want is not in the list then Choose another app, 4 Set the Always use this ... checkbox, 5 If the one you want is not in the list then More apps, 6 If the one you want is not in the list then Look for another app on this PC, 7 Browse to and select the chosen application's .exe file, click on Open, 8 It will then open the file in the chosen app. 9 All other files with the same file extension should also run in your chosen app if you now simply double-click on them. Most of this is also explained with pretty pictures in Option 2 of Choose Default Apps - TenForumsTutorials but it leaves out my steps 6, 7. Instead, the tutorial takes a bit of a shortcut that I generally don't take. If you had only been interested in getting your chosen apps in the Open with list instead of working through to set them as the default app for those file extensions then I would have suggested a different tutorial: Remove, Add Programs from Open with Context Menu - TenForumsTutorials and I would have advised you to take note of post #26 in that tutorial thread Remove, Add Programs from Open with Context Menu [hexaae UWPApps note #26] - TenForumsTutorials All the best, Denis

Curious Browser app discrepancies after upgrading to Win10

After doing an in-place upgrade from Win7 to Win10, I'm seeing some curious discrepancies within the Win10 Settings\Apps areas:

Win10's Settings\Apps & features, lists just two browsers:
    - one Mozilla Firefox app.
    - one Microsoft Edge app.
And Win10's Settings\Default Apps, correctly lists Firefox as my default web browser.

    However,
    Win10's Settings\Default Apps\Set defaults by app, shows:
    - one Microsoft Edge icon (that's ok)
    - two Firefox icons. (Why are there two Firefox icons?)
    - one Internet Explorer icon. (Why do I see an Internet Explorer icon, if Internet Explorer does not show up as an installed app? When I upgraded, didn't Microsoft Edge replace Internet Explorer?)

    Many thanks in advance,

    Winver 1903, Build 18362.418
    Firefox 70.0.1 (64-bit)
