Win10 download includes which recent updates? How to tell.

How can I find out how up to date a Win10 image downloaded using the MediaCreationTool is before downloading it- whether it includes the update KB3200970 (Nov8) for instance? I would like to avoid downloading a new image if it doesn't include the latest cumulative update which tend to be quite large.

    :)

How can I tell what update I should use to prevent WannaCrypt attack?

    Hello,

Installing the most recent update ensures that you also get any previous updates you might have missed, including any important security fixes.

An update history is available so you can see which updates were installed, and when. You may also use this to remove specific updates, although we don't recommend this unless it's necessary.

Tell me how to play movies.

    what type of movies?

windows media player will play movies - included in windows 10

Films & TV app will play movies (purchased from Store) - included in windows 10

VLC - better than both not included with windows download from
    VideoLan

I would strongly disagree that finding your preferred app (for anything) is bull. I would MUCH prefer the operating system not to come with any bloatware.

Start the media creation tool. Accept the license agreement. Then with Media Creation Tool still open, look in C:\$Windows.~WS\Sources, right click on products.xml and select Edit. A few lines from the beginning you will see:

    <PublishedMedia id="1078" release="20160802 RS1 WU Win10 RTM">

You can also look at the <Filepath>:
    http://fg.ds.b1.download.windowsupdate.com/c/updt/2016/07/14393.0.160715-1616.rs1_release_clientcombinedsl_ret_x86fre_ar-sa_d15640b1bc06916e610885a4b6695c72d67966ae.esd

The bolded parts show you the release and RTM dates. Typically, Microsoft won't update the ISO file unless the major build number (14393 is the current series) changes.

    Thanks.
Is the link above supposed to be browsable? I didn't see anything on that page.

No. It's just an example of the line you will see in the .xml file.

You can open an XML file in notepad, but for better formatting and readability, IE or some other browser may be preferable. Here's the difference:

    From Notepad:
    From MS Edge

PS: Sorry, I couldn't lay hands on a "Products.xml" document without actually grabbing files from an ongoing install. Hope my alternate selection is OK.
