  1. Win10 EFS encyption lock after system restore

Have a Windows 10 Pro 1903 install, we ran into some issues with some software not working correctly so we did a system restore to reset the machine to about 2 weeks prior. Upon completion of the system restore process, we had several folders on a secondary drive that are now inaccessible due to the encryption certificate changing apparently. The system is using the same account Microsoft account that created the encrypted folders initially, but apparently the system restore broke / didn't restore the original key in the process.

We've tried every method we can think of internally to windows to decrypt the folders including running system restore to a different restore point, but still are unable to access the folders. When trying to modify any of the folders or file permissions, an error is given that says access is denied. We've ensured the account is administrator, is the owner of the folders, etc. We've tried creating a secondary administrator account and granting ownership over the folders, but no matter what we do, nothing seems to be working.

Is there any means to fix this?

    :)

  3. System restore in Win10

I ran into a situation where I think system restore may solve the problem. This desktop system originally came with WIN7 and it was automatically updated to WIN10 quite a while ago. I have used system restore in previous versions of Windows but this is the
    first time using WIN10 restore.

When i go into system restore the screen lists a restore point with the date i would like to use for C: drive. Then it also lists a Recovery drive with the status of The drive is not in the selected restore point.

Above that box is a Warning Icon stating you must always restore the drive that contains Windows. Restoring other drives is optional.

Is there anything to worry about here? I haven't seen the warning message in other system restores in the past.

    Thanks

    Ron
