I'd like to apologise in advance as this is probably completely newb to many of you.

On the newegg page at the bottom of the review tab dated 8/25/2015 12:06:28 PM, Anonymous author stated:

My Windows 10 boot SSD is GPT format while my Windows 7 boot SSD is MBR format with System reserved partition so IDK if this is even possible for dual booting?

I don't get where the the settings on "exclusively enable and auto disable" are and how to apply them...

Can anyone show screenshots of the settings to enable safe dual booting?

    Regards,
    David

    :)

  2. Windows 7 not working in Windows 10 dual boot system and blue screen appears

Original Title: windows 7 and 10 dual booting

I recently tried to dual boot win7 and win10 to test out win10, i formatted and changed 1 hdd from mbr to gpt, i shrank a partition for win10 (50gb) and installed it without any hiccups, i booted up win10 no problems and the 1st couple of times switching
to win7 was fine too, but after those 2 times when trying to boot win7my mouse and keyboard became unresponsive, i couldnt login or shutdown or restart without pressing it on my case. I tried disabling the xHCI in the bios, which worked for that 1 time booting
win7. After that, the only way i could boot win7 and logon was if i disconnected my hdd with win10 on it. So i decided to cut my losses but without being able to logon win7 i used the win10 installation from the boot menu to reformat the hdd with win10 on
it, now i get the blue screen with error code 0xc0000225 on it, the same as having my hdd with win10 on it disconnected. How can i get rid of this? Basically going back to how things were before the win10 install. I didnt backup any of my drives since they
were all pretty much full, but the hdd that had win10 on it is completely empty and seperate from win7.

  3. After Windows 10 PC reset, inaccessible boot device

Easy fix for ....On efi systems windows can only be installed to GPT disks - [Solved] - Windows 7

    Thinking,

Because I was in a dual boot using MBR, after about 4 windows10 loopboots using UEFI to my Win10 partitionI, my Bios defaulted to legacy boot using MBR on a win 7 machine. That's why it was not infinite.

I prepared a USB using the media creation tool on my win 10 partition, and tried to reinstall win10, only to receive the error, "Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed
    on GPT disks."

In my bios, which is pretty locked down (HP Envy), I can only select legacy boot enabled/disabled, but UEFI is the default, and MBR is secondary. I am going to prepare a second USB in my Win 7 partition, which should force the media to be MBR, and not
GPT, like my original ISO from way back, and see what happens.

Would I be on the right path in thinking 2-4 of the manual (BIOS Features) is what this guy meant?
Wouldn't this create a palava when trying to choose which OS to boot given Fast boot disables accessing BIOS with the Del key after posting?

  5. I think I might know what you're talking about. Its whereby you set the default boot device in BIOS and it *refuses* to boot from anything else. Had this issue, UEFI mobo would not boot from USB at any costs to reinstall windows when windows was already installed. So had to physically delete the OS drive from the boot entry list in the bios, make the USB the default and then it worked. And after windows was reinstalled, the USB drive was automatically removed from boot device options and the SSD re-added. I thought it was the weirdest thing, but this might just explain it. Cheers *Smile

  6. You'd get around this in Win10 by holding shift+restart when you are restarting from within windows, then going into UEFI settings from there, but from Windows 7 you would be screwed afaik.

Thanks for your replies Maltesespace *Thumbs

Seems there is a Gigabyte App centre utility for controlling Fast Boot, called (funnily enough *Wink ) Fast Boot (Intel 100 series) link

    Works in W7&10x64 *Smile
Looks like I may be another step closer, considering how close I am to moving into the new build....

  9. Yes installing 7 in EFI mode is the best option. Before I upgraded to 10 I was running 7 Ultimate in UEFI mode and it was great.
