Windows 10: win10 install

I have win 10 installed on this hdd. I am trying to install on another hdd from a disk/thumb drive that I downloaded from ms site (upgrade from win7) and when it ask for a product key I gave the win 7 id but it says it is not a legal one. What gives, I thought you could upgrade win7 to win10 using the setup given. The product key is legal , I use it on a hdd with win7.

Windows 10 Installation Problems

After up grading to Win 10, my screen started to blink and the lap top was frozen in this blinking mode. After restarting computer many times, it is stuck in the Win 10 load process with the circle of dots spinning around and around while the load process
goes no where. I have tested all hardware and it is OK. I tried the Win 10 fix and it still is in the same mode where the dots spin around and around, but operating system does not load and start up

I have a 64 bit HP Lap Top that was running Win 8.1 without any problems before trying to load Win 10.

 

Windows 10 Home fresh install blue screens, Windows program failure and 3rd party program crashes.

Did you upgrade Win10 Pro to Win10 Enterprise (before you did the fresh install of Win10 Home) or did you replace Win10 Pro with Win10 Enterprise (before you did the fresh install of Win10 Home)? Where did you obtain the installation media for Win10 Home?

In addition, if you are using the same Windows 7 key on two different hard drives (for two different computers) to get Windows 10 for two different computers you are likely violating the law (unless you have a family pack license, like I had).

You cannot just use a Windows 7 key and enter it into Windows 10 upgrade/setup. You have to be doing the upgrade from a properly and legally licensed, activated and running Windows 7 that you run the upgrade from.

 

This copy (10240) was installed using windows update(s) on a clean (new) hdd from 3/4 builds back, not on a win7 hdd, and yes I do have the family pack of 3 of win7 so can I install onto another hdd and still be legal , can I clone and be legal?

 

The only way that the free Win 10 upgrade will activate is if you install it as an upgrade over a qualifying OS (Win 7, 8). I believe that it has to be an upgrade of the "keep everything" kind. There are other restrictions: same language, same bitness (32 or 64), etc.

Once you've activated once, you can clean install and activate on the same hardware. No Win 10 key is provided,or needed.

Yes, you can have up to 3 legal copies of Windows 10, and cloning is legal. However, as soon as you boot that cloned hard drive in a different computer, Windows 10 will deactivate because it will determine during boot that it is not in the computer it was originally installed on. Then you will have to install Windows 7 on that computer, make sure Windows 7 is activated and then upgrade to Windows 10.

So feel free to clone Windows 10 twice and stay legal - but you won't be able to use it for very long on a different computer. You can also clone Windows 7 twice, activate the cloned Windows 7 on the new computer, and then upgrade to Windows 10 and activate Windows 10.

But, as long as you want it on three different computers, you have to start with Windows 7 on each computer and upgrade each one individually.
