Windows 10: Win10 Mar9/2021 update caused Animalware Svc Exec to run continuously

Ever since the March 9, Windows Windows Update, the Antimalware Service Executable has been running continuously (15+ hours of full scan without terminating). I'm running Windows 10 Home version 20H2. Task Manager doesn't allow me to kill the process, which is significantly slowing down my PC. I've already tried running a Microsoft Defender Offline scan, which terminated normally after 15 minutes and restarted with no scan. But the next morning, the scan again ran interminably. Any ideas?

Windows 10 - cannot add exec to Startup in Task Manager

I purchased a new computer with Windows 10 already installed. I am trying to add an exec to the startup list but Win10 will not accept it. The exec runs successfully on my Windows 10 machine if I start it manually.

Steps I've taken: Task Manager, Startup Tab, File>Run New Task. (browse to location, select.) It will start immediately, but does not show up on the list to autostart, nor does it start on reboot.

Any suggestions?

When in win10:

• Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....

Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
- Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

• What are you referring to when you say Script SVC?
• Is the issue fixed after using the update troubleshooter?

If it's an application then I would suggest you to re-install the application and then check if it helps.
