Win10 named my user folder "mailf" despite my username being different

I'm running Win10 on a Dell Inspiron 15 3000. I managed to change my username to what I wanted but the name on the user folder where my data is stored is still "mailf". That name keeps being used, by the system, in various places -- e.g. Acrobat Reader puts that name on sticky notes.

How can I change "mailf" to be my username?

    :)

  2. Win10 User name different in C:\Users\<username> to Logon Username

I'm sure many people have had the same occur to them, and probably would advise me to just leave it as it is.

-> What you perceive as a problem could be considered an irritation but is not a problem as far as Windows is concerned. You need to be aware that every account consists of two entities:

    • The account name, e.g. JBrown
    • The profile folder name, e.g. C:\Users\JBrown
In most cases the two are the same. However, they could be totally different and it would not matter in the least.

While you can change the account name from JBrown to Everybody, the change is only superficial. It's a nickname. The underlying account name remains the same. You can press the Windows key + R and type this command to see for yourself:

    cmd.exe /c net user "%UserName%" & pause

You cannot change the name of the profile folder. If you did through some sneaky means then you would cripple Windows.

Win10 User name different in C:\Users\<username> to Logon Username

Can somebody tell me the correct procedure to the following problem I'm having:

I installed Win10 home and used my Microsoft account during installation.

So when I started Windows, I logged in with a Microsoft account which required a password.

I later changed the Account settings to a Local account, calling the username "EveryBody".

What it did NOT do was change the "C:\Users\<username>" (which was a shortened version of my Microsoft email address)

    to the new username "EveryBody".

I have tried an online remedy which required me to make a new Admin account, physically rename "C:\Users\<username>" to

the Username's spelling, edited the registry etc. Which gave me all sorts of logon issues.

So I'm now back to where I started with 2 different names. The logon display name of "EveryBody",

and the file explorer name of "C:\Users\<username>".

I'm sure many people have had the same occur to them, and probably would advise me to just leave it as it is.

Nut it bugs me to no end, and I need it fixed.

Has anyone successfully remedied the above problem, and could you please tell me what you did to fix it?

    Many thanks in advance.

  4. Win10 named my user folder "mailf" despite my username being different

Document, Picutures, etc Folders under C:\User\{username} vs Same named folders under C:\User\[username]\One Drive

What is the difference (content) between the folders Documents, Pictures, etc. in c:\Users\[username] and same named folders under c:\Users\[username]\OneDrive? Why aren't the contents the same?
