Windows 10: Win10 not recognizing TV - HDMI working fine though...

Hi there.

I looked it up cases like mine, but found no other.

I got a new desktop recently, and after a month or so, I believe it was after an update (not sure) it stopped recognizing the TV... I tested with a monitor of a friend, using a HDMI cable and it worked fine.

I tested other cables and other TVs, tried to update my vídeo driver and also revert it to the previous version...

Nothing seems to work, I got a new TV just to play my games, don't like Win 8 too much and cannot afford a new monitor right now (just got TV + desktop).

Any ideas how to fix this?

Ok... Then I think it must have something to do with the fact that I am running with DisplayPort and you with HDMI. Maybe the GFX driver for win 10 reports an incorrect HDMI version e.g. 1.3 and your TV uses 1.4 but it is not recognized (in Win10)?

Hi, I recently got a HDMI cord to connect my computer to my TV, the problem is that Windows doesn't seem to detect my TV even though it's plugged in, I know it's not the HDMI Cord because when it's plugged in to both the computer and TV my HDMI option is
available on my TV, plus I connected it to my Xbox and it worked fine, I've really tried everything I've been searching all day and nothing has worked, someone please help. ):

Sounds like a "handshake" problem to me.

Yeah... as I said, I tested with other TVs of several brands and other cables, news and used... are all of them having handshake problem?

What I am going to say has nothing to do with solving your hdmi to TV problem. I do not have an answer for that.
I am just wanting to make a comment/suggestion for future consideration......................
I realize you have already spent money on a new TV and a new computer. You are in no mood to spend another dime.
However, if your computer is Bluetooth capable, consider getting a Chromecast.
I purchased one lately ( 3 weeks ago) for my tablets and it works great.
I can use the TV as my big-screen computer monitor, or I can "cast" a movie on TV and use the same tablet for other chores.
No more 6 feet long HDMI cable.
Just a thought, perhaps ?
My laptops have no Bluetooth capability, what a shame.

 

davidhk, the OP is most likely doing Media Server or using the HDTV for a computer monitor.

Also Chromecast does not connect via Bluetooth, it is through WiFi.

It is also slower than molasses when casting.

I use a 26" HDTV with a Raspberry Pi B 2nd Gen. I even have issues with the tv not working right with HDMI, because it is a budget set that Toshiba produced.

Try the Mobile phone Chromecast app -- you can chromecast to TV etc.

I use PLEX on the computer (FREE) as a movie / video server and the PLEX app on the mobile phone casts it to the remote TV -

What you need is PLEX on the Computer and the Mobile phone and the Google Chromecast device plugged into the TV. Brilliant device -- handles the new X265 codec too without "pre-transcoding" as well.

I'm sure the chromecast dongles are easily available where you are. They output full HD (1920 X 1080) to remote TV's if the source is full HD. Device costs around 30 EUR / USD (inc tax) here. IMO worth every penny.

You use the mobile phone to set up Chromecast on the TV first (connect the chromecast dongle to your TV) then cast to it using the PLEX application.

I think you can use a tablet instead of a mobile phone - but a smart phone app is so convenient and I don't have any slabs (tablets).

No Bluetooth needed. (BTW Audio via blue tooth is not the best quality anyway !! Chromecast plays full AC / dolby etc from movies transmitted via PLEX.

@bro67 The reason why your Chromecast might be slow is you are probably doing it via Wifi and your wifi isn't fast.

Other reasons --SLOW HDD's -- I've seen so many even high specced computers with appallingly slow HDD's - people seem not to realize that these days poor computer performance is usually due (around 85% IMO) to slow HDD's.

External HDD's connected to USB2 for movie casting - use USB3 if possible.

Set Casting - if using things like PLEX to play streams directly --not via inline transcoding.

Set your Wifi up to the fastest connection - if using the 2.4GHZ bands avoid if possible channels 1,6,11 as most people use those so most contention. If you can get the new fast 5GHZ 802.11ac Routers you can get as fast wifi as you really need -- comoing up to LAN cable speed.

I'm lucky as my Laptop I'm using at times has 3X USB ports and a very fast wifi adapter which can use the 802.11ac protocol (and we probably have the fastest broadband on the planet where I am).

How many HDMI input connections in your TV ?
Try the one some manufactures calls it DVI input, you will find one of the HDMI input beside it DVI input, hope this one works for you

 

when you plug your pc to the TV, can you see any information on your "audio devices" list - as in does it show up at all there or does the PC recognize the signal from the TV?

i reckon i had some issues back in the days with insider win10 build and reinstalling windows solved it, got old samsung 46" LED smart tv. it was a laptop tho
