Windows 10: Win10 PRO 64 C drive wont boot after XMS box ticked in ASUS bios

Win10Pro64 on 2tB HDD, over 1TB free space, no issues with disk, ASUS Z270 plus AR MOBO. 16GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX Ram rated to 3000MHz, I7 Coffee Lake CPU 4.2GHz, LQ cooler, MSI 2080Ti

11GB graphics, set to it in BIOS, Msoft USB kbrd and mouse , Samsung 970 Pro nVme SSD, Crucial nVme SSD 1Tb

Win 10PRO version...latest update on 19th 06 2020....all updates installed to that date.

USB Repair stick generated about 2 months ago

Image backup disk generated same date


BASE PROBLEM:

1. System was running very stable after just installing hi end video graphics suite

and had no issues with it.


2. To improve Rendering times, I was advised to set the RAM to an XMP profile as

it was not set in BIOS The Ram is XMP certified

3. On PC power on the ASUS card stopped and restarted as is common with\ this boards

software to obtain the most stable profile.


4. HOWEVER: It would not bpoot into Win10, went into "repair " mode.

When the USB reapir stick instertd and this selected from screen, it failed to

repair the disk. The BIOS was reset to standard mode

but did not resolve 5he issue. This was reated several times with same result


5. I have 2 other PCs with licensed Win64 8.1 PRO and Win 7 PRO 64 on them.

Inserted disk into Win8.1 system to see if I could access disk NOT to attempt boot from it as the MOBO and drivers are different and would cause problems if attempted


6..... I could read the files and copy some data from them to another drive so the disk

file structure was accesable


7. Under Win8.2 Disk Manager I could see the Win10 disk and it reported that it was OK, healthy and no problems with it!! partition OK!



8. Put back in Win10 PC it gave same failed results as before.


It seems as far as Win8.1 is concerned that this drive is healthy and should boot OK??

But note that disk manager now states it has two extra partitions, I created only one originally



QUESTIONS: Is it safe, when in the Win8.1 PC, to invoke the CMD commands to check this disk out ?? maybe it has been set to "dirty" by the failed XMP effort ??

If so can I use the clean command in Win8.1 and others to try to "fix" this disk so it will boot up in Win10??


Note that I CANT use the sys image disk as

a It was created before my expensive video edit softare and some others installed so it wont be restored if the disk image back up works, so no point in it. This software gives you only ONE re install or you have to buy again and thats too risky for me.

Also a disk image takes some hours to create . I normally do an image after installing high end software, but their simply was no time to do this due to need to test software before a time limit

given me. In would also have to buy another HDD to use as new image restore as I alternate between image disks so I always have an earlier image if anything goes awry with the new one.

The new software and graphics card had been installed the day before and was ruining very stable before all this


I would greatly appreciate any help or advice from those more knowledgeable than myself.

Compability of Asus H97-Pro with Windows 10 (64-bit)


I'm planning to have Asus H97-Pro & Windows 10 (64-bit) in my new system.

While cross checking compatibilty I landed on Windows Compatible Products List
and according to that Asus H97-Pro is only comatible with Windows 7 & 8.

Please suggest whether Asus H97-Pro is actually compatible with Windows 10 or not.

After Win10 Install, Can't Boot, Can't Even Get Into BIOS

Thank you for your response.

1. The computer is self built. It has an ASUS P8Z77-V Pro motherboard.

2. I have the Win8 and Win10 discs.

3. Not sure what you mean by force reboot. The system doesn't POST. I've turned it off, pulled the plug, etc.

Please note - you mentioned my changes to the BIOS - I didn't touch the BIOS until exhausting other troubleshooting steps (reboot, unplugging all drives and peripherals, etc). Then I updated the BIOS to see if that would help.

Unplugging other drives and peripherals does nothing. As soon as the drive with Win10 is connected, the system will not POST. I even tried connecting the offending drive as a USB drive and the system will not POST if it is connected.

Is there some security setting in Win10 that interacts with the BIOS?

Dual Boot Win10 64 bit and Win10 32 bit

When I originally installed Win10 I installed the 32 bit version. I have a blank drive, and would like to install the 64 bit version on that, creating a dual boot system.

What are the steps I need to follow? I'm reasonably intelligent but not tech savvy.
