Win10 Pro oem, installed as Win10 HOME

I have an original CD with 64 bits Win 10 Pro for OEM, with a sticker with key.
I did a clean installation deleted the partitions in C:

I installed and see that it is the Win 10 OEM Home 1709
After instalation there were the automatic Windows updates from Microsoft.

How to get the PRO version. I tried in System/Computer to fill in my KEY but that did not work.
How to get the PRO version?
    Thanks. William

    :)

  2. Win7 Pro (OEM) to Win10

Just tried to use the MS 'Media Creation Tool' to download an .iso of Win10 Pro 64-bit - the only OS offered in the dropdown box is Win10 Home!

Currently running Win7 Pro (OEM) on my last machine to be upgraded. I haven't yet done the automatic 'upgrade' to Win10. Of course, I know I need to do this before doing a clean install with a downloaded .iso. Is this the reason for no choice of the Pro
    version?

If first I do the free upgrade from Win7 Pro (OEM) to Win10...

    a) Will the upgraded OS show as Win10 Pro (OEM)?
    and;

    b) If I then run the 'Media Creation Tool', will I then be offered a choice of Win10 Home or Win10 Pro in the drop-down?

It was always my understanding that Win7 Pro (OEM) was entitled to a free upgrade to Win10 Pro (OEM)...

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks,

    Henry

  3. Windows 10 Home fresh install blue screens, Windows program failure and 3rd party program crashes.

Did you upgrade Win10 Pro to Win10 Enterprise (before you did the fresh install of Win10 Home) or did you replace Win10 Pro with Win10 Enterprise (before you did the fresh install of Win10 Home)? Where did you obtain the installation media for Win10 Home?
    ...Win10 Pro? ...Win10 Enterprise?

Win10 Pro oem, installed as Win10 HOME

I had a similar problem, I have a Win 10 home laptop which I’d upgraded to pro via a Win 8.1 pro key, I did a clean install & got home again so had to enter the generic key for pro.
    I discovered this workaround:
Create a PID.txt file containing the following text:
    [PID]
    Value=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

The Xs get replaced with your Windows 10 Pro product key. If your Windows 10 Pro activation is with a digital license, then insert the generic product key: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

Save the PID.txt file to the \Sources folder on your Windows 10 installation media (USB flash drive).

Windows 10 decides which version (Home or Pro) to install in the following order:

    1. Finding a product key in the PID.txt file
    2. Finding a product key in UEFI/BIOS
    3. The user manually enters a product key when asked for one
    4. No product key is found or entered - then the user is asked for Home or Pro.

This worked when I last did a clean install after the Anniversary update.

It worked for one Laptop, with the generic key. On the other Laptop it did NOT. (error not a dig.keY bla bla..

To work with my own Original Key, where can I find the file containing the "PID" value=....
on My local Hardisk c:, where the "home" version was installed.
    c:\WIndows\\\xxx\xxx\ ???

    Thanks,William

If you have a valid Pro license you can enter the generic key and swap.

If you don't have a valid Pro license it will not work.

    It isn't complicated.

If home accepted, let alone got activated, with the sticker key - you do not have Pro.

OTOH, if a key was not requested at set-up it used that from the firmware - First check you have a proper pro key...

Win10 Pro oem, installed as Win10 HOME

You create the file using notepad & save it as a PID file then save it on the installation media not the Windows installation.
I should’ve been clearer that this fix only works when you install Windows 10 pro; you can’t use it if Windows is already installed, to change from home to pro in that case you either have to use a Win 7 or 8 or 8.1 Win pro key to upgrade.
If home installed & activated then the pc came with home & the key is embedded in the BIOS.

It worked with an original Win 8.1 Pro key, and after a very short automatic MS-update it was Win 10 Pro.. !!! Thanks.
