  1. Win10 ReInstall with "Keep My Files" now forces a failed Admin account on login

I performed a re-install of Win 10 on my laptop using the automated process allowing me to keep my files just hoping to freshen things uplaptop is a few years old. The install process was fine but now whenever there is a restart or a win update the computer shows an Admin account which fails to login. I need to use Ctrl Alt Del to catch and pause the auto logon and switch account to use my normal admin login/user account. When looking at the user accounts on the machine this "Administrator" account is not seen, only my accountwhich is an admin account as well.I have tried going into the r

  2. Win10 ReInstall with "Keep My Files" now forces a failed Admin account on login

I performed a re-install of Win 10 on my laptop using the automated process allowing me to keep my files just hoping to freshen things up(laptop is a few years old). The install process was fine but now whenever there is a restart or a win update the computer shows an Admin account which fails to login. I need to use Ctrl Alt Del to catch and pause the auto logon and switch account to use my normal admin login/user account.

When looking at the user accounts on the machine this "Administrator" account is not seen, only my account(which is an admin account as well).

I have tried going into the registry per this bulletin Windows 10 may display the Administrator account at the sign-in screen after resetting the PC - Microsoft Support

AutoAdminLogon wasn't in the registry so i created a new entry and set it up, but on restart it still tries to go to an admin account that doesn't appear to exist.

I also did try holding SHIFT and doing a restart through the windows menu and in the advanced section there were no issues found.

My Laptop came from a company that builds computers specifically for CAD and never had issues with it, but thought I would mention this wasn't a big box computer. I am running Office 365 and the computer is one of my business account computers, not a home/student license if that matters. I want to retain win10 as long as I can as I have several computers and all running win10 so I would prefer not to jump to win11 for various reasons.

If you are still with me, I am trying to figure out 1. Why is this admin account showing up that didn't exist before the windows refresh. 2. Why doesn't it show up as an account through the control panel. 3. how can i remove or disable it so during restarts and windows updates it doesn't fail and stall.

Thank you for your time and assistance!

    Windows Login fail

It doesn't even get to the login screen. It has only an Admin account. This is the 2nd time its happening after running repair once. Maybe I'll try Vista on it if links given by Ahhzz doesn't work.

    Locked Out of Admin Account

    Hello Linda,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

    1. Are you using a Microsoft account or a local account?
    2. Which version of Windows 10 you are using currently?
    3. Is the other user account an admin account?

I suggest you to try using the on screen keyboard at the login page and check if you are able to login to the PC.

    1. At the login screen click on the
ease of access icon at the bottom right hand corner.
    2. Click on the on screen keyboard to open it.
    3. Type the password and try to login.

If you are using a Microsoft account, I suggest you to refer the article on

how to reset your Microsoft account password
    .

However, if you are using a local account, then I suggest you to refer the article on

reset your Windows 10 local account password
    .

Note: While performing these steps, there might be a risk of data loss. You may take a backup of the data before performing the steps.

    Hope it helps.
