MIcrosoft loves it's moronic shortcuts. I hate that. You never know where you really are. Have you deleted the file or the shortcut of the file? It's just beyond stupid. Welcome to the world of Microsoft where it's a miracle the software writers there can find their front door to get to work. So what we need is for the Start Menu to take us to the actual files, not some pinned concoction. Is this possible to engineer? I don't mind doing each one by one as the Start Menu is such a time saver when it works properly, Even in Win7 there were obvious shortcomings they ignored in Win10. Not

  2. How to pin shortcut to start menu.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

As per the description, I understand that you would like to know how to pin short cut to start menu.

I would suggest you to refer to the article given below if you are using Windows 7.

Pin a program to the Start menu

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Pin-a-program-to-the-Start-menu

And if you are using Windows 10 then I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below.

    Pin apps to Start

Pin the apps you use most often to the Start menu. Here's how:

    • Go to Start > All Apps.
    • Press and hold (or right-click) an app.
    • Select Pin to Start.

Hope this helps. Please let us know the results. We will be happy to assist you further.

Sergiy Shklyar - You are a genius. This is the solution for pinning a non-executable to the Start Menu. Many thanks.

Win10 Start Menu are shortcuts to some Pinned system. Can I make it work like Win7?

How to pin shortcut to start menu.

This sounds great... only problem is that the hidden folder in Windows 10 "C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" contains five folders and no files. If I add my shortcut to the "Programs" folder as suggested, it does NOT appear
in the "All apps" list. If I put it in the "Windows System" folder, a subfolder of "Programs" which contains 7 other shortcuts that show up in "All apps", my shortcut still does not appear. I really don't care about "The common way" or "the more elegant way",
I just want to know how to accomplish this, and so far, these solutions just don't work. It seems like there should be a folder, somewhere, where all the shortcuts for the "All apps" list are stored. I hope someone can help me with this frustrating issue.
