  1. Win10 Unable to save to ProgramFIles even after changing permissions

Hi Microsoft Community, A few years ago, I bought a 1TB drive to expand the space on my desktop. After a while, to be more organized, I decided to name one of the folders on that drive "Program Files." I've never had this issue before up until now, but it seems as if Windows has suddenly recognized it as an original folder as if it were on the C:\ drive. this folder is on my H:\ drive Because of this, I can no longer download files to that folder. I am prompted with "You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact your Administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in

    :)

Unable to save permission changes on ShellFolder

Hello ozium, and welcome to Ten Forums. Win10 Unable to save to ProgramFIles even after changing permissions :)

That's correct. You will need to take ownership of the "ShellFolder" key as noted in step 4 first before you will be able to change its permissions.

  3. "Unable to Save Permission Changes, Parameter is Invalid"

I'm trying to prevent a pesky program from running by revoking it's permissions, but I can't because whenever I disable inheritance on it (whether by converting inherited permissions to explicit permissions or just removing the permissions altogether) I get this error: "Unable to Save Permission Changes, Parameter is Invalid". What parameter is invalid, and what can I do about it?

Unable to save permission changes on ShellFolder

    Hi,

I have performed this task (removing Network from Windows Explorer navigation) literally hundreds of times in Windows 7. It is even the same registry key, which I have memorized.

I am attempting this on a new Windows 10 machine I am setting up. I am logged in as the local Administrator, which is my usual process.

I am at the key in regedit and I cannot change permissions to allow Administrators full control - I get the error "Unable to save permission changes on ShellFolder. Access is denied."

I am totally stumped as to where to go from here if even the Administrator account cannot change this.

I thought about trying to take ownership in Advanced, taking it away from SYSTEM, but I am not sure if that will affect anything else down the line.
