  1. Win10 update beyond 1607 fails

I have a Toshiba laptop, admittedly quite old, that is running 1607 quite satisfactorily - but updates to 1706 or 1 803 fail. The process runs for a considerable time, doing several reboots, but finally reverts to 1607 without any error messages - so I have little idea what the problem is!

I have run SetupDiag.exe, and it points me (only) to setupmem.dmp - this is a 120MB file that is beyond my expertise to examine.

I have also tried a clean install from a USB created by the Media Creation Tool, but that fails at the beginning with "A media driver your computer needs is missing" - but nothing I can do will identify the diver that may be needed. I have tried loading almost every media driver I can find in a dump of present drivers, but it always says 'no new driver has been loaded', so I cant get passed this problem. I rather suspect it is a spurious error message.

Can anyone advise or help me get beyond this impasse?

I have tried the Microsoft Window10 helpline, but so far they haven't fixed anything.

    Thank you

    :)

Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
    - Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

    Win10 1607 update issues

I'm having issues with the Windows 10 Anniversary/1607 update. Slow response from applications and Windows Explorer, right-clicking brings up blank windows, icons occasionally don't show up on the taskbar, etc. I've tried a few steps including rolling
back the update (the issues carried over to the previous version after uninstalling 1607) and reinstalling but with no success. My once perfectly functioning PC has become a pain to operate. Any suggestions on how to get it back in shape (short of a complete
    reinstall on Win10)?

    Win10 update beyond 1607 fails

    Windows 10 1607 to 1703 Creators update fails with 0xC1900101 - 0x30018

    Hi,

Normally, we suggest reverting back to the previous Windows update which is 1607. To do that, follow the steps below.

    • Open Settings window.
    • Click Update and Security, Recovery.
    • Select Get Started, under Go back.

This is only a workaround that should work on your end.

Let us know if you have other concerns.
