Windows 10: Win10 Windows Defender bogus scan alert

How do I get rid of this alert? There is no such app currently installed, I uninstalled it on February 11 when this notice first popped up. And I've even gone into the listed paths and deleted the uTorrent folders. I've also scanned my Registry for any references to uTorrent and there are none.

Whenever I do an on-demand scan of a download, I get alerted to "threats found" and to take the recommended action, but there are no recommended actions and clicking the button to do so does... nothing. I've used the Filters button shown in the screen shot to filter this out, but it keeps coming back.

defender scans

Hi Ian,

Thanks for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

This issue might occur if you have set any task scheduler for Windows Defender.

I suggest you to delete the task for Windows defender and check if it helps.

Follow the below steps:

• 
  Search and open Schedule tasks.
  
• 
  In the left-hand menu, open the Task Scheduler Library, then select
  Microsoft >Windows >Windows Defender.
  
• 
  Double-click Windows Defender Scheduled Scan.
  
• 
  Select the Triggers panel, then select Delete.

Defender not Running Regular Scan


I've never understood the need some people feel to set up a scheduled task to run a Defender scan. For the past year the automatic maintenance has run Defender scans for me.

That is, until the Anniversary Upgrade - it broke something and Defender never ran another scan. It finally alerted me that a scan was long overdue. I followed the suggestion on another thread...
Windows Defender No Longer Performs AutoScan
...and the automatic maintenance scans are back to running regularly again.

 

Windows defender custom scan does not scan external drives

Hi Joe,

to scan external drives using Windows Defender, follow the steps provided below.

• Open Windows Defender.
• Go to Settings tab.
• Select the Advanced option.
• tick the checkbox for Scan removable drives.
