Win10 won't boot up. BSOD Advanced Options fail to work.

As of mid-December 2020 Win10 won't boot up. Only gets as far as the Win10 logo showing up after the BIOS shortcut page with my motherboard logo on it and then goes straight to BSOD “StopCode: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED". My current Win10 version is: 10.0.18362.1

BSOD Advanced Options fail to: Reset, Repair, Restore, Uninstall Latest Updates or enter Safe Mode.
Only thing that works through BSOD Advanced Options is command prompt.

Through various command prompt chkdsk and various 3rd party scans that bypass the OS I've been able to confirm nothing wrong with my hard driveSSD or RAM. Also no malware or virus were found.

Made a Win10 Installation Media USB to try to boot or repair the OS but Reset, Repair or Restore were still not functional even though restore points were listed.
Only other thing the Installation Media offered was 2 options under Install Win10. Unfortunately the 1st option, which would allow me to keep my programs and other personal files, won't work through the boot USB, it requires OS to load in order to use that option ... which is useless to me since that's my issue to begin with my OS won't load. The 2nd option only installs brand new Win10 and, from the description, I would lose all my personal stuff.
I thought the Installation Media was supposed to be able to boot the OS but either it can't or I'm doing something wrong.

I'm not ready to give up on fixing the OS without loosing my programs and other personal files.

Any idea what else I can attempt to try to fix the OS without loosing my programs and other personal files?

Any suggestions on programs that boot the OS? I've attempted to use some that claimed they could but couldn't get them to work.

:)

How does Windows boot to advanced recovery option e.g. command prompt?

- that gives me a 454 'Unexpected error' This tells me that the BCD is partially corrupted.

The commands: shutdown.exe /r /o /f /t 00
or: %SystemRoot%\System32\Cmd.exe /c reagentc /boottore&shutdown /r /f /t 00
should boot into Recovery if everything is configured correctly.
FYI, If Windows is configured correctly:
1. If Reagentc is disabled, you still can get into Recovery but with limited options.
2. If Reagentc is enabled, you'll get all options.
3. If you boot Windows using Recovery USB stick, You'll get into Recovery with couple of options missing.

Here's my suggestion if you want to try:
OPTION 1: Will save the trouble of re-install Windows.

1. Download the image of my first 3 partitions (450MB Recovery, 100 MB EFI partition, and 16MB unformatted primary)
EFI_Boot-00-00.7z - Google Drive
2. Run Macrium and restore the image from step 1, overwriting your existing 1st three partitions, leaving C alone.
3. Delete the 490MB Recovery partition.
4. From Macrium, run fix boot problems.
5. Reboot. Open Admin command prompt then run Reagentc /info to make sure that it is enabled. If not, enable it.
if failed to enable, reboot and try again.
OPTION 2: Assuming you've already had Windows backup with Macrium.

1. Wipe out the first 5 parttiions. (450MB, 100MB, 16MB, C Drive, 480MB)
2. Fresh install Windows 10
3. Restore C drive from backup image, run fix boot problems
4. repeat step 5 from OPTION 1 above.

3. System restore failed and now my computer won' t boot at all

Hi Bjørn,

To address this concern, we suggest that you follow the steps below:

Method 1:

Disconnect all the external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) drives, etc...) except mouse and the keyboard and then boot up. If this corrects the issue then add the devices back one at a time until you discover the
piece of hardware causing the issue. Then get any updated drivers\software for the device.

Method 2:

Perform a Startup repair from Advance boot option

• Boot your computer using a Windows 10 CD/ DVD or System Repair Disc.

• Select the correct time and keyboard type.

• Click on Repair your computer in the lower left corner.

• Select Troubleshoot from the Choose an option screen.

• Click on Advanced options in the Troubleshoot screen.

• Click on Startup Repair from the Advanced Options screen.

• Next, choose the operating system.

• Windows 10 will look for problems on hard drive(s) and verify that all required files are intact.

Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.

Win10 won't boot up. BSOD Advanced Options fail to work.

How does Windows boot to advanced recovery option e.g. command prompt?

I have questions for you:
1. if you open admin command, copy and paste: reagentc /boottore&shutdown /r /f /t 00
Does it boot into recovery ?
2. Is the disk layout still look like the screen you posted in the other thread with 2 recovery partitions (450MB and 480MB)?

Win10 won't boot up. BSOD Advanced Options fail to work. [IMG]

According to suggestions from the thread, you changed from partitiion 5 to partition 1 with reagentc, which in my opinion is not correct. When you upgrade, windows creates an extra 450MB after C: and put a new Winre.wim there and set it to partition 5 (counting from left to right)
