Windows 10: WIN10 won't recognize blank CD-R disk in the dvd/cd drive

I have seen this problem listed for WIN7 and a few years ago for WIN10. This is July 2023. I used my DVD/CD drive to burn a blank CD disk with some information about 4-6 months ago. Now it keeps telling me there is no disc in the drive. I have tried 2-3 new disks. It reads other used discs OK. I had many problems after the May Microsoft WIN10 update which messed up my new SSD HD and some of my files was a widely reported problem. Was there a recent WIN10 update that messed with the settings for the DVD/CD drives?ThanksRon

I did not read your post thoroughly.

My apologies.

I have just noticed that it wont recognize a blank CD-R.

Yet it reads others fine in the HP Desktop.

At the same time i made a mistake by mentioning + and - CD recordable.

There are only CD-R.

+ and - apply`s to DVD`s.

I gather the ones it does read are already recorded on or pre-recorded.

So i would suggest to try a different brand of Blank CD-R media such as TDK if you haven't already.

Since it is a Desktop and the Drives are easy to change could you get your hands on a known working unit to test with in the HP Desktop ?

I am still suspecting some form of drive and read failure in relations to the HP picking up the blank CD-R.

At the same time i don`t believe your Drive letters have anything to do with it as it does read other pre recorded CD`s.

I know this question has been floated around for a long time with 100's of remedies My Hp Desktop won't recognize I have a blank CD-R in the tray. I tried the these same cds in my laptop and they read just fine. The desktop reads any other cd's I put into
the tray just fine just not blank ones.

the laptop shows as an E drive and desktop shows a D drive I don't know if this matters I've pretty much tried everything.

It keeps telling me to insert a disk into the DVD drive (D but the blank CD-R is already in tray.

If anyone has any suggestions thank you.

Hp laptop and they read just fine. The Hp desktop does read other cd's just not blank ones.
