Hello, I have a Dell Precision 5820 PC with an SK Hynix P31 1TB NVMe SSD in a Sybrent PCIe to NVMe M.2 adapter in the first PCIe slot. On it I installed Windows 10 in UEFI mode last year and it has been running great. Recently I decided to upgrade to Windows 11 through the Windows Update process. The upgrade tool showed all checks so I did not foresee any issues. The upgrade process continued without issues and at the last restart it booted to the dell diagnostics screen which showed "No bootable devices found". From there I restarted went to the BIOS changed to legacy with legacy roms and tur

Dell Precision 5820 no network connection

Hello together,

we have some Dell Precision 5820 clients, that we must migrate to Windows 10.

We are installing our clients with a unattended.xml file and joining directly during the unattend phase to our domain. The Windows PE phase are working very fine, the Windows installation and Domain Join also. But when there is coming the first logon screen,
the client have no network connection.

We have also some other 1.000 Dell clients (other models), that have not the problem. This is only on all Dell Precision 5820 clients.

When is working:

• When we let the client join a workgroup, then the client have a network connection. When we switch to the domain, the network is working also. If we rebooting 3 -5 the client, we have again our problem.
• Reboot the client with no network cabel and plug in few seconds later, after the client is started, the cabel. The client will become a IP address.
• The IP address will receive from our DHCP server.

I have testet the following steps, but nothing from there fixed the problem.

• Testet the original Intel network driver
• The latest Dell network driver
• Domain Join to a extra OU in the AD, with block inheritance GPO
• Disabled some speed options in the BIOS for performance (only 1 core, disable Intel SpeedStep)
• Reservation on the DHCP server
• Fixed IP address
• Plugin the Client to a DSL AVM FritzBox, but the same problem to receive a address via DHCP.
• Analysed on the client via Wireshard, there is only a DHCP discover.

Any suggestions what we can analyse?

upgrade for win11

I am going to buy a new PC to upgrade to win11,(upgrade due anyway) but i am not happy I thought win10 was the last, well I am going to move away and dual linux and run with that. Pretty much had enough with windows i am moving on.

 

Another one trying to upgrade to Win11

This is my WIn10 on an ASUS desktop from about 5 years ago, factory setup by ASUS for the only internal drive 0 which has C: as Boot/System and D: set up as GPT with the EFI system, other drives are USB:




So far the only reason given for not upgrading is it doesn't meet the TPM requirement for Win11. There's no socket/port for a TPM module on the motherboard.

I have a Custom machine with Gigabyte motherboard and Intel Core i7 CPU given me for parts that is still quite good and has the socket but haven't found the module for it yet.
