Windows 10: Win11 Notepad tab is only 5 spaces

In previous versions it used to be 8 spaces, but now in Windows 11 is only 5. Add the option to change it or at least make it like it used to be.

I have created a *.txt in Win11 using TabStops.

My collegue is using Win10 and continues editing.

After his work, the document looks very strange.

I found out, Win11 uses 5 Space but Win10 uses 8.

Can someone confirm that behavior?

How can i adjust the tab width in Win10 or Win11 Notepad, i could'nt find an option.

In General: Why it was changed without an option to modify?

Pressing the Tab key on NotePad will advance the cursor to 4 spaces and it's by design. We suggest that you use the space bar instead. You can post your query on Feedback Hub so our engineers and developers will be able to read your concern

Tab Stops in Notepad for Win10 and Win11

I did some tests here and I can confirm the behavior, there is a difference between Windows 10 notepad "Tab" and Windows 11 notepad "Tab'.

Here I saw 8 character spaces on Windows 10 notepad and 6 character spaces on Windows 11 notepad.

On Windows 11 notepad changed from a .exe program to a UWP app, so it is hard to modify it now.

If you want to keep working and want to maintain the standard, I recommend you to use Notepad++, since it is customizable, so you can change the tab width.

To change the tab size on the Notepad++ go to Settings > Preferences > Language > Under Tab Settings you will see the Tab size option
