    Win11 scaling & rext size

Win11 Pro 24H2 build 26100.4061 64bitDespite having eye surgery & new glasses my site is not the best, also somewhat colour blind.I have increased Text size 175% Whilst this is helpfull with most o365 apps it doesnt appear to apply to some of the bespoke software I use for work.I then increased scaling to 125% but even with a restart this appears tempremantal, particularly with MS Outlook desktop, insomuch as this morning the main OL window seemed to be set at a font of about 6 and after a restart ol OL has gone to a font of about 6 for the Folder pane and 12 for the msg and reading panes.

Problems with Win11, text size and scaling!

    Hi S Nader Rasuli,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. I understand that you're experiencing issues with the font size on your Surface Laptop 5. I'll do my best to help you resolve this issue.

May I know which Microsoft 365 application do you use where the CTRL shortcuts stops working when you change the scaling settings? Does it happen only on Word, or it happens on all applications including Excel, PowerPoint and etc.?

Which Office license and version do you use? See this page for reference: About Office: What version of Office am I using? - Microsoft Support

Regarding the first issue, it's possible that the scaling settings you've adjusted are not being applied to all areas of the operating system. To resolve this, you can try adjusting the scaling settings in the Display settings. Here are the steps:

    1. Right-click on the desktop and select Display settings.

    2. Scroll down to the Scale and layout section and click on the drop-down menu under "Change the size of text, apps, and other items".

    3. Select the scaling percentage that you prefer.

    4. Click on the "Advanced scaling settings" link.

    5. Under "Custom scaling", adjust the percentage to your desired size.

    6. Click on "Apply" and then "Sign out now" to apply the changes.

If the issue persists, you can try resetting the scaling settings to default and then reapplying your preferred settings. Here are the steps:

    1. Go to Display settings as described above.

    2. Scroll down to the Scale and layout section and click on the drop-down menu under "Change the size of text, apps, and other items".

    3. Select "100%".

    4. Click on "Sign out now" to apply the changes.

    5. Once you've signed back in, go back to Display settings and adjust the scaling settings to your preferred size.

Regarding the second issue, it's possible that the Microsoft 365 application is not compatible with the scaling settings you've applied. To resolve this, you can try adjusting the compatibility settings for the Microsoft 365 application. Here are the steps:

    1. Right-click on the Microsoft 365 application icon and select Properties.

    2. Click on the Compatibility tab.

    3. Check the box next to "Override high DPI scaling behavior".

    4. Select "System (Enhanced)" from the drop-down menu.

    5. Click on "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.

If the issue persists, you can try repairing the Microsoft 365 installation. Here are the steps: Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support

    1. Go to Control Panel and select Programs and Features.

    2. Find the Microsoft 365 application in the list and right-click on it.

    3. Select "Change" and then "Repair".

    4. Follow the prompts to complete the repair process.

Additionally, if still the issues persist, kindly try running the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit on the device to run some system checks and repairs then make sure that all updates are installed in Windows Settings > Windows Updates including Optional updates. Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Support

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,
    Marrion

    scale sizing

    Hi Brennda,

Custom scaling is one of the settings that you can use to modify the resolution or size of the text, applications, and other items on your desktop. To learn more about your concern with scale sizing, we’d like to ask the questions below:

    • How did you perform the custom scale on your computer?
    • Are you having issues with the scale size of a specific file or an app?

It would also help us if you’ll send us a screenshot
of the exact concern that you’re having.

Please refer to the image below if this is the settings that you're pertaining with the recommended size:

Problems with Win11, text size and scaling!

    Dear Marrion,

Many thanks for your answer, and sorry my delay. I am using Office 365 (version 18.2306.1061.0); I prefer to work with its desktop version, rather than on a browser. Moreover, the problem with Ctrl+… family only happens inside MS Word, not in Excel, PowerPoint, … .

Following your valuable suggestions, I reduced the text scale from 135% to 125%, and conversely increased the custom scaling from 175% to 190%. When I applied the custom scaling + its routine “sign out”, the problem with Ctrl+… disappeared! Some hours later, after one sleep of windows, the problem returned. I again rescaled the custom scaling, and it routinely signed out. The problem is again solved!

It could be that changing text size or keeping a custom setting other than 100%, triggers some instability which eventually stops some of MS Office features. It even may cause some wider changes inside Windows, but as I can only spot change with Ctrl+… short keys, I have not been able to see those other changes.

Once more, thank for your prompt answer.

    Kind regards,

    Nader

Enable unsupported display scaling scale presets on odd sized displays: Hi, my Zenbook Pro 14 Duo has an odd sized secondary display at 2880x864. It seems the logic in W11 for what scaling presets to allow is based on vertical resolution thats my best guess, since on this high DPI display it will only allow 100 or 125% setttings. So for the main...
