I posted this question as a reply to this post:https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsclient/forum/all/windows-11-pro-cannot-connect-to-shared-folders/12d782c3-b0e4-4773-b23c-8f607584330dBut I'm not sure if that is likely to get a response, so here it is again: I have followed all of the steps in the above post but my problem is still not solved/changed.I have a Windows Vista PC and a Windows 8.1 laptop.I am able to access shared folders between these two using the HomeGroup facility in Windows 8.1I recently added a Windows 11 pro machine. Following the advice above it has a Local account

    Vista in Hyper-V

Yes, but only briefly. You can certainly run XP in Hyper-V so a 'newer' OS like Vista should theoretically be no problem.

I had a dead XP laptop, the only remaining functional part being its HDD. It had some software installed I wanted to rescue, so I put the HDD in a usb enclosure, took a Macrium image, then booted a Hyper-V machine from a Macrium rescue ISO and restored the XP image to the VM. I then proceeded to upgrade this (in steps) to Windows 10.

One of the steps was to upgrade XP to Vista. As I said, I only had Vista running briefly as a step on the way to W10, but it worked in Hyper-V without apparent problem.

Where Can I Download Windows Vista?

There are links here to download a Vista VM vhd direct from download.microsoft.com (it comes as six .rar files). They still seem to be valid links. The vhd is intended for use with Windows Virtual PC, but may be possible to use with Hyper-V.

Can't Access Network Shared Folders With Android Phone Connected WIFI

5 PCs Connected to Local Network:
    1- Win10 Home - V.1511 10586.545
    2- Win10 Pro - V.1511 10586.545
    2- Win10 Pro - v.1607 14393.105

    Win10 v.1511 Home, 2 - Win10 Pro V.1511, and 1- Win10 Pro v.1607 are all hard wired Ethernet.

    1- Win10 Pro V1607 connected via WIFI (5ghz)

All Network shares are set, Password Protected Sharing is turned off, on all systems. All PCs open/view/share folders and files as expected between all PCs.

Before install Anniversary Update on 2 PCs, I could Copy files from my Mot Android Turbo 2 phone (connected via WIFI (5GHZ or 2.4Ghz) using Asus File Manager Ap, to any shared PC folders on my network.

After Installing AU 1607 on 2 of the PCs on my network, I can now only copy file to my Windows Home V.1511 PC. All others are requesting User and Passwords for access. Again, Password Protected Sharing is turned off on all PCs....

    Disabling Hyper-V breaks sharing folders

    Hi
I have 5 PC's running Windows 10. They are all correctly configured to access shared folders on one of these PC's located in my shed out back (SHED-PC). In addition, they can also access a "samba share" on a linux server.
However, yesterday I disabled Hyper-V on my workstation in my office as I have no need to use it for a while. After the restart, I noticed I no longer had internet connectivity through the wired network connection. Troubleshooting wizard automatically
    fixed the network adapter.
I now seem to have lost all of my File Explorer access to my SHED-PC shares from my workstation. I have narrowed down the problem to this "disabling Hyper-V" event, as all the other PC's still have the same access to the SHED-PC as well as the "samba share".
So something has changed on my workstation. I assume it has something to do with my NIC/Hyper-V switch now missing?
When I open File Explorer on my workstation, the only items appearing under Network is the workstation itself. No other PC's or devices show up. Internet connectivity is fine though.
Can anyone please explain what has happened when I disabled Hyper-V and how to configure the network adapter so I can access my shares again.
    Many thanks.
