Windows 10: Win11 - Windows Media Player needs HEVC Video Extensions

Since moving to the new Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra phone, every video I record now cannot be played in the WMP that comes with Win11, due to it missing the necessary codecs. So it tries to take me to the Microsoft Store where it costs $0.99 to buy these HEVC Video Extensions.Why? Why hasn't WMP been updated to include these? I can use VLC or other high end graphics programs and it plays the videos just fine. So now I have all these new videos I have recorded that now can't be played using WMP, which is my "goto" video player. Any videos .mp4 recorded using my older phone, works just fine

HEVC Video Extension not working in windows 10 PC

Check if the video is corrupted. Test with another media player like VLC. If it works, it can be the problem with the HEVC extension. You can download K-Lite codec pack to have a try. Or simply convert the HEVC video to another format like Mp4 H.264 to check if it works.

 

HEVC Video extension not installing

Hi,

I am trying to view HEIC image files on my Windows 10 PC

I installed HEIF extension from Microsoft Store, it installed properly, but still Photos app is showing only blurry images.

Upon googling i saw advice to install HEVC Video extension too.

I bought HEVC Video extension from the Microsoft Store and when click on "Install" nothing happens and HEVC is not listed in the Apps & Features list. (HEIF extension is present in this list)

When i select the three dots near the "Install" button i was given the list of machines i want the extension to be installed on. When i select the machine i am trying to install on, all i get is the message saying that "We will attempt to install the extension on the machine you requested" but no action

Is there a way for me to get the binary myself and install it manually instead of relying on some auto install program?

I have already wasted 2 days trying to view HEIC files on Windows 10.
