Windows 10: Win7 twang

Lately, since about 3 or 4 days, I've noticed that when I boot into Win7 after the MS chimes in the login screen a guitar twang sounds when the Desktop appears. Has anyone noticed the same? I've never heard this sound happen before, and me thinks most likely it has to do with Win-X roll out in few days. Any thoughts?

Why does WAU only update its own products?

so, it happened again with the AV identifying updates to my printer but WAU only updated its own product. why has this changed?

so i went to canon's update page appropriate to my printer and there were 9 [count them NINE] updates!

with gritted teeth i downloaded each of them, one after the other via firefox and then when it came time to install each of them, i had to keep a mental count as to which download i was up to because there's no other way of knowing which one you're up to!

anyhoo, i've sent feedback to Win10 and also firefox techs to see whether the technology can keep up with human usage.

another thing i liked about WAU in Win7 is that it would install updates in order and it would do a restart and then download the next lot of installs or whatever. tonight, installing my printer updates, has been an arduous task to say the least.

again, if anyone out there has any tweaks or perhaps there's a task i can add to my schedule, please please please let me know. it's taken me just under 2 hours to finalise the updates and ensure that everything is in working order.

KB3093266 error and now KB3097617 error as well..... Any hope?

Hi-sorry for the delay in replying - it takes AGES to try and work through carefully.

OK - I ran the fixit item in the article you linked.. it said it fixed something.. but when I tried to apply patches.. it still failed ... so I worked it back carefully.. things I noticed/did.

It no longer tries to install KB3093266 .. looks like MS removed it. But it still fails on kb3097617 (it can install defender updates etc). the fail code is still 0x80070020

I went back into msconfig and did selective startup... no startup items and only allowed MS services.

I removed AV completely (as it was re-enabling itself on reboot (Kaspersky IS .. 2016).

I then ran your fixit tool and it said it fixed

"Service Registration is missing or corrupt"

Then I tried to install the patch again.. but it STILL failed

After its backs out from trying patch ..I ran the fixit tool again.. and most times sit says it finds and fixes the same error.. but since disabling all snon MS services and startups.. it seems stay fixed.

But I cannot reproduce 100% reliably.. so don't know what exactly is causing the issue with the service registration.. (or even if that is the root of the issue or just a red herring!!).

So still stuck.. any more ideas?

I am going to have to charge you for a new SSD at this rate.. all this patching and backing out will be killing it early!!!

 

Are you dual-booting Win7 and Win10? Does it happen only on Win7 or after exiting Win10 to go with Win7? The questions are because this is the Windows 10 forum. Windows 7 Forums

 

Dual Boot with 2 separate HDD (Win7 on one HDD, Win X on second HDD).

 

No I don't and I also have windows startup sound turned off.
