Now it doesn't work at all. So by hitting the Windows key and A it would highlight the first item in the Start Menu beginning with, you guessed it, "A" and you hit Enter and it opened. And if there was another item beginning with the same letter you would go Windows/A/A/Enter. So fluid and fast.Is there any way of getting it to work again? The Start Menu has so much potential for effortlessly launching so many programs if we can just get it to work like it used to. Or am I missing something? Maybe the problem is when I type anything it appears or triggers Windows Search. I've disabled W

  2. Kill the letters! (Start menu apps list.)

One final hack/adjustment and I will be at peace.
So far no-one has come up with a way to remove the stupid letters from the start menu apps list... have they?

Please do NOT suggest third part apps.
I value the right click menu features on the Start button and all the third party Start Menu apps screw with this.
I don't want another program, I just want the stupid clumsy letters gone!

    Any creative geniuses out there?
I'm not the only one who wants this, surely! Win7's Start Menu was so logical. You typed the first letter and you went to that item in... :)

    And it doesn't even work...
Is the name of the program used to determine where the app goes or the name of the company that makes the program.. or even whether it's free or not!
    (See image F for Free!)
    Useless and pathetic Microsoft!

  3. Missing start menu letter

On Windows 10. In the start menu. In the alphabetical order, I can see letters starting with "A". Something happened, not sure, but I can no longer see anything that begins with the letter "D". "D" is removed from the alphabetical list. How can I restore that letter back to the list?

    No items in start menu

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

First I would suggest you to click on all apps in start menu and see if you can find the apps there, if yes then right click on the app and select Pin to start.

If the issue persist then I would suggest you to run sfc scan and check if it helps:

The “sfc /scannow” command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

    a) Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard and select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from
    that menu.

    b) On the command prompt window, type the following command, and then press “Enter

    sfc /scannow

    c) Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the scan.

If still the issue persist run DISM and check:

    • Open an Administrator CMD window. If you can’t find a way, use these steps:
      • Press CTRL+Shift+ESC to open Task Manager.
      • Click File > Run New Task
      • Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
      • Type CMD
Type the following commands at the CMD prompt:

    dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Hope this information helps and let us know the status of the issue we will be glad to help you further.
