trying to clear or enter new password in WIN8

I am trying to see if possible to setup an old Toshiba Satellite Model C55 A530D laptop for the grandkids to play with. It appears to be a WIN8 OS, but it boots to a login screen and my daughter can't remember it. So we can't get to the Windows screen to do anything else. There are several solutions on the internet that list 5-6 steps of restarting off the login screen and supposedly ending up in safe mode then the command prompt to clear the password. It doesn't work. On the last screen your supposed to hit F6 when it goes to restart to get into safe mode. It never does, just boots back to the login screen and asks for the password again.

Any suggestions on how get this to work?

First I understand all your simplicity on formats. Is still does not address why MP4 videos on Win7 will not play on Win8 as MP4



Second the suggestion on Vidcoder was excelleant it made me THINK. I run Nero and it has a program called recode, tried it, worked simply in batch for all mp4s placed back win8 phone and bingo.
