  1. Wind speed setting in Weather App

It seems the units used to display windspeeds in the weather app, have something to do with the language settings.

This will fail as there are people working in various countries, and using various languages, so a match will be difficult.

Your weather all should allow people to set the windspeed units to their specific needs; and these needs have nothing to do with any language setting they may require.

I live in Austria where we use metric units (centigrade and km/h).

However, I work on English documents, so I have the English UK language setting.

People living in the UK use centigrade for temperature but still use miles for their windspeeds.

They may also work on English documents and will have the same English UK setting as I do.

So our language settings will be the same, but our requirement for the units used for windspeed are different.

The only way of setting windspeeds is to allow the user to set the windspeed units they want.

There is no way your App can use the language setting to "devine" which units of measure a user will need for windspeeds.

Please allow users freely to select the units of windspeed that they would like to use.

    :)

  2. How do I make the weather app show wind speeds in km/h?

    Suvarna,

To a certain extent you are right. However, the Farenheit/Celsius setting is not the
only thing that influences whether the weather application shows wind speeds in mph or km/h. I have not been able to find out exactly
which parameters Microsoft uses, as it is not documented; however, region
and language choices also seem to affect the display.

Regarding your suggestion, I did of course select Centigrade in the settings, but the wind speeds remained stubornly in mph.

I also find it very strange to need to set the temperature to Celcius to adjust how
    wind speeds are shown.

I suggest Microsoft investigates its own code to eliminate the weather setting being
unnecessarily influenced by language, region or other settings.

I also suggest that instead of Farenheit and Celcius
    settings, they are renamed to:

    • Imperial units
    • Metric units.
I'm sure you would agree that this would be more intuitive to use than the current system whereby users have to choose
Celcius if they want windspeeds in km/h.

For me the interface demonstrates, once again, an apparent ignorance of anything outside the US.

  3. How do I make the weather app show wind speeds in meters per second?

Hi ilyadumov, I just checked my device, and it looks like the Windows 10 Weather app can show wind speeds in kilometers per hour if you set the temperature scale to Celsius, and miles per hour if you set the temperature scale to Fahrenheit. I do not believe
the built-in Weather app can show wind speeds in meters per second.

  4. Wind speed setting in Weather App

How do I make the weather app show wind speeds in km/h?

I can switch between a temperature display in Fahrenheit and Centigrade, but the wind speed and visibility displays remain fixed in imperial units (mph and miles) no matter what. However, I doubt that
anyone needs weather data with some of it displayed in one set of units, and the rest in another. Please correct this post if
anyone has other data on this requirement.

Here is a solution to the problem. This is Microsoft madness but...

Adding US English as an input method, and moving it to the top of the language list caused my Weather App to display wind speeds and visibility in appropriate units as follows:

    • When I click on the "C" in the Weather App, everything is displayed in
      metric units.
    • When I click on the "F", everything is displayed in imperial
      units.

The Weather App seems to be getting its instructions to switch wind speed and visibility displays from something in the the English (United States) language setting - it shouldn't, but it does.

Microsoft! Please remove the contingency that English (United States)
    has to b
e at the top of the language list for your Weather App to work sensibly. Just let people click on the very simple "C" and "F" temperature selection in the App itself to switch
everything in the App between imperial and metric units.

You have overcomplicated what should be a very simple and intuitive process.

By the way, the down-side of changing the Language setting as explained above does cause the Weather App to display the
time in the 12-hour system instead of the 24-hour system. Why in heaven's name does anyone at Microsoft think that that is appropriate?

Microsoft! You have made another problem for us to talk about now.
