    Windbg symbol location

    Hello,

I have been trying to use Windbg to investigate a few BSD. I am not a programmer or expert just inquisitive. I have checked online and haven't found the magic link to the symbols as yet. Most posts are 2/3 yrs old.

My symbol path in Windbg is "SRV*C:\MyServerSymbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols". My Version is: 10.0.19042 Build 19042

The closet answer I find to where the symbols have moved is, "to an Azure-based symbol store that is backed by a more robust publishing pipeline than the one we've had in the past." I know this means something to the experts on this forum but to me not enough to find the symbols.

    Can you help me, please?

    :)

    WinDbg error.

Those errors have a few reasons:
    • Missing symbols
    • Corrupted symbols,
    • Counterfeit system,
    • Hardware damage,
    • Improper configuration of Windbg,
    • Microsoft servers down (rarely happening)

In case of missing symbols, simply reload (re-open) the dumps a few times so the symbols are downloaded.

    In case of corrupted symbols,

    • empty the symbol folder, move the symbols to a different folder,
    • open the dump a few times, this should download the necessary symbols,
    • move the symbols back to the original folder and say no when Windows asks if you want to copy the files with the same name too.

DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION BSOD, Windbg unable to load symbols

Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10130
    WIN-A82HE7DTDIP-Fri_06_05_2015_172808_86.zip attached
PC Specs are in profile Windbg symbol location :p

So I have windbg, I followed the how to install guide (Using both the win8.1 and win10 SDK, both give the same errors, suggested fixes i tried failed on both) and regardless of what I do I have these errors throughout the console window:

*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for ntoskrnl.exe
***** Kernel symbols are WRONG. Please fix symbols to do analysis.

I tried !sym noisy/.reload which just brought up a whole bunch of HTTP errors and DLLs not found, and .symfix brought up this:

DBGHELP: Symbol Search Path: srv*c:\symcache*Symbol information
DBGHELP: Symbol Search Path: cache*;SRV*Symbol information
DBGHELP: Symbol Search Path: cache*;SRV*Symbol information

So I guess what I'm looking for is both a way to get windbg functioning properly and also an answer to what is causing my watchdog violation. I have been running Windows 10 for a while, had 1 watchdog BSOD on a previous Build and now 1 again on this one. No it isn't super frequent but it does bother me!
