Hi, Yesterday while I was downloading patch for CoD World at war, A filerar was downloaded and extracted itself without my permission. It has blocked the option of turning on real time protection, sending sample to microsoft and I can't enable it from Notification centreAnd strange thing is that when I ran the microsoft safety scannner it founds nothing...No threatI am done with all the other option like enabling from group policy, regedit, scanning the drive for corrupted files, installing latest update, several time restart but none of these have helped me till now..Waiting further for

    :)

Windows Defender turned off after Windows 10 upgrade

I was in a long discussion about this prior to the 29th. I wanted to know how to turn WinDef on and the moderators were seeking to know how I turned it off.

I did two installs on my laptop and on a new aio. With the all-in-one I removed all possible anti-viruses and maleware fighters. WinDef was on by default and continues sturdily onward. From the earlier discussions and readings, I did find and do believe
that MS has included several entirely transparent new traps and WinDef is not functioning by itself. I am giving MS a chance to prove that.

I took off all anti-virus and malware fighters on the laptop, except for one - SecureAPlus, a small program the trips up things like ransomware, before the up-grade. Yup, happened again. WinDef is not working and is greyed out on the buttons.

Did anyone find a real cure? I left the listing with the suggestion from
    Steve
to run a stand-alone anti-virus program in SafeMode. Some people have found that an infection is to blame. And, as often quoted, MS intentionally defaults WinDef to Off when it finds another big anti-virus program. I guess that a little one
    counts, too.

But, assuming that is the case, I am still searching for how to turn WinDef back on.

Thanks for the reply. I can confirm that WinDef & Win FW are both off.

I understood that 16.0.1.445 is not a mainstream release & not offered as a routine update which suggests beta SW...? Am I wrong?

If I go to the KIS update page you suggest, I am still offered 16.0.0.614 ... *Sad

    Cannot turn on Windows Defender

I tried to install it 4X and it won't even start the installation. It's in the update file but it's listed as stopped. I think the first response will answer my question on this too. It was OK to have it installed on Win7 and just have AVG disabled for
    WinDef to run.
