Windows 10: Window 10 Themes have not worked since version 1709

Windows XP had a robust themes manager that actually worked.


Windows 10 has a Themes Thingy that is to be completely honest totally useless.


I was able to mimic Windows XP performance by manually editing the themes file saved by the Windows 10 Themes Thingy.


I had Windows 10 version 1709 working just fine.


I am now on version 1803 OS build 17134.556 and the Windows 10 Themes Thingy totally busted.


I have done a total re-install of Windows 10 and it fixed themes up to the point where version 1709 got updated again.


The updates after version 1709 have a busted Themes Thingy.


It is my understanding that Microsoft busted the Themes Thingy in an attempt to fix a text illegibility associated with the High Contrast #1 and certain Window Applications.


I would like to point out the I had absolutely no problems that required Microsoft to fix and/or break themes. All my Applications had legible text.


I think Microsoft failed to understand the actual problem.


Problem 1: Windows 10 Themes Thingy is not currently able to save a theme in its entirety.


effects: Its perfectly understandable that setting a theme can work and that some people can use themes without ever encountering a problem, but the truth is that the Windows 10 Themes Thingy only partially saves themes and this can causes textual illegibility problems. I have seen yellow on white and dark grey on black or worse.

rationale: I discovered that the sequence of turning on and off settings affects the appearance. My theme was not really working until I started playing around with the Themes Thingy and set settings in the correct sequence. I do not really know why my themes file gets overridden by the Themes Thingy but its possibly a register/priority thing or effects that failed to save and/or be changed. Its a sequencing thing related into how one uses the the Windows 10 Theme Thingy to change themes.


The bottom line is that the Themes Thingy does not entirely save the theme and this can cause applications to become unusable. (i.e. invisible text) Microsoft failed to fix the real problem and made it worst instead.


Problem 2: Windows 10 Themes Thingy is not currently able to actually set theme.


effects: After saving a custom theme and rebooting, High Contrast #1 is set and various applications have invisible text. Its makes no difference if its a Microsoft product or not. All software products are similarly effected.

rationale: When I reboot High Contrast #1 is set.


Problem 3: Windows 10 Themes Thingy does not support colorization.

effects: I had to manually edit the themes file and change colors experimentally.

rationale: Wish it did, Windows XP did.


Broken Themes Work Around.


I created a batch file to set the theme via Task Scheduler at user logon.


C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\themecpl.dll,OpenThemeAction %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\Easy_Blue.theme

TIMEOUT 1
TASKKILL /F /IM systemsettings.exe & close window
exit

Creative X-Fi Soundcards and Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709 = Complete Disaster / Not Working

Thank you for trying to help , i did tried your suggestion but it did not work :/ , nothing seems to make it work on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update 1709. In the meantime i have bought a new SoundBlasterX AE-5 and it did installed flawlessly , no problems whatsoever. it is up to Creative ( drivers ) and Microsoft ( bug fix ) to fix this huge bugs with Audio.

Unable to update Window 10 Pro version 1607 to version 1709

Have made several attempts to update Windows 10 version 1607 to the latest version 1709 and have not been successful.

I've done the following per some suggestions found online:

• Updated drivers
• Ran the Trouble Shooter for Windows 10 (Errors found were shown to be "Fixed" per the tool)
• Unplugged the printer
• Ran the DISM.exe

Although not at every attempt, I have received the following errors:

• 0xc1900101 - 0x30018
• 0x900704c7

Can someone please advise me as to what the errors are and provide me with the steps to update Windows.
