I've spent the last several hours scouring the Internet for answers and they all come up the same. chkdsk /fGo to Properties and change permissionsGo to Properties/Security and change the Ownerand on, and on, and on....all run as Administrator. What I can't seem to find is a clear reason why my Windows 11 machine has read only access to every USB flash drive. I have several flash drives. All of them work fine in multiple laptops except my Window 11 machine. I format them on another machine, bring them over to the Win11 machine and I can't write, format, chkdsk, etc.I've formatted FAT, FAT32, ex

How To Format A Write Protected Flash Memory ?

    ¿You already tried this one?...

    Run CMD

    1. diskpart
    2. list disk

Then in the 3º step, put the correct number of disk in the list for the usb flash (if it's listed in disk 3, then you'll have to write select disk 3).

    2. select disk #
    3. clean
    4. create partition primary
    5. select partition 1
    6. active
    7. format fs=fat32
    8. assign
    9. exit

with that commands you will format the flash drive in fat32, if you have a large drive you can select also "format fs=ntfs" in step 7.

    good luck!

Window 11 laptop does not have sufficient rights for write, format, chkdsk, etc on any USB...

Chkdsk shows errors after formatting the usb stick

In order to reproduce the problem, I am doing the following steps:

    • I put a text file with a single line of text on the usb file.
    • I plug in a USB stick to a PC and in the explorer window I go to the usb stick drive.
    • I double-click on the text file and open it in notepad.
    • I close the notepad.
    • I the explorer I go to the one level up and I click the right button on the USB drive and choose the properties->format.
    • I formatted the disk with default proposed parameters (FAT32).

The disk is empty after formatting. At the command line prompt window, I type the chkdsk and the letter of the USB drive and I am receiving information that errors have been found (Convert lost chains to files (y/n)?).

I checked it with various usb sticks and different systems (Windows 7, 8, 10) and I got the same results.
