Windows 10: Windows 10/11 VPN From RDP Session Kills Remote Desktop

I'm hoping someone else out there has seen this and may have some insight regarding a fix. In my environment, we have certain networks that only specific machines are permitted to VPN to. With so many people working from home, some WFH users will VPN to network 1 so that they can RDP to their onsite machine, then VPN from that onsite machine to network 2 to access resources available only on network 2.With other AV products in place, this works no problem, but for whatever reason Defender takes issue with this and kills the user's RDP session as soon as that VPN connection is made from the mac

There is a way to get Terminal server over a Windows 7 (I guess 8 is the same) to run multiple session. I have to try it, but people says it seems to work.

User Windows are by default limited, not like Windows server where you have Terminal Server (that you need to buy license). The other would be like Kaynar said, with Virtual Machine..

To summarise: Connecting or disconnecting a Remote Desktop session to a Windows 10 machine disrupts the Audio Drivers in a way that halts audio playback, and requires the playing application to be restarted. It seems tied to updates to Remote
Desktop in Windows 10 Anniversary Edition.

That thread had plenty of people experiencing the same problem, plenty of attempts to fix the problem, but no conclusion or feedback from Microsoft.

I have tried:

• Disabling audio redirection in the Registry (HLKM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\fDisableAudioCapture)
• Disabling the Remote Desktop Port Redirection Service
• Disabling (on my client) Remote Audio Playback (Playback on Remote PC)

None of these help. As soon as you connect or disconnect, RDP is messing with the Wave drivers, and the applications can't handle it.

Does anyone share this problem or have any other suggestions to try?
