Windows 10 1511 Network Browsing Issue

I have small network that in in a domain with windows server 2012R2 DCs. When I upgraded one workstation and did clean install on another desktop to the 1511 version of Windows 10, most of my computers in the network do not show up in the network area of windows explorer. I can connect to them by entering the URL, and all network devices and computers pings normally. When I use a script to find network master browser, I get message master browser not found, election probably is in process. I have computers in network with windows 7 and windows 8 and they have normal network browsing and can find the master browser. Windows 10 computers before 1511 also worked normally.

    :)

Windows 10 Network Computers missing on some computers (9 networked together)

Did Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 (KB3124200) fix the SMB and File Explorer Network issue?

  3. unable to create a new homegroup on Windows 10

I am also having the same issue. I have two computers on the network, both running Windows 10 Pro build 1511. I receive an message stating that there is already a home group created on the first computer, but when I check it states to create a home group.

I have successfully connected both computers to the same home group but they are still unable to share files. When I try to access the 2nd computer I receive an error stating that the network path is not valid when I browse to the computer in file explorer,
    home group.

Are you sure you have joined the domain? If you haven't connected to the domain, but you are on the same network, this would explain your issues. Right-click on This Computer and select Properties. Then click on Change Settings next to computer name and then click Network ID and proceed as appropriate.

I checked and the computer was joined to the domain. I unjoined it and then joined it again to my network. Still have the same issue. This computer browsed normally until I upgraded in place the computer from windows 10 rtm to the 1511 version.

I had the same problem (click here). My problem was with a Samba server, but your situation might be a similar root cause.

See in the Advanced Sharing Options. Some setting there might cause your problems.

Windows 10 1511 Network Browsing Issue

    I have the same problem.

I have a Windows server 2012 R2 DC and several Windows 7 and Windows 10 PC's. I know it is not a recommended configuration, but it is just a home network.
The Windows 7 & 10 PC's can't see most of the network neighborhood, although some are visible.

When I fire up a virtual machine running Windows XP and join the domain, it has no problems. On XP I can run the browstat tool, and it reports that nothing is wrong, the WIndows 2012 DC is reported as the master browser, as expected.

I guess I don't have to ask: what is wrong?

    TIA,

    Bart

Is network discovery enabled in Advanced Sharing Options? Are all the relevant services running (not remember which right now) ? I don't know if this help, but maybe you should disable password sharing.

At least in Windows 10, in a domain, there is no choice about password sharing.

    Any other ideas?

I have this problem and I also see a master browser problem.

From my testing it looks like the computer that is the master browser can see the shares but the others can't get the shares from the master browser.

In the event log/system on the problem comp I see a warning source BROWSER ID 8021 "The browser service was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master \\pcname on the network\Device\NetBT_Tcpip_(...........).

Next there is a browser Information entry BROWSER id 8032 saying "The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_(...........). The backup browser is stopping.

A Vista comp on my network doesn't have any problems with showing shares but all my five 10586 have this problem.

You'd have thought that the newest cumulative update should have fixed this.

I have done the test. I did a fresh install of build 10240. Windows explorer showed the network neighborhood without problems. Then I upgraded to build 10565. There the problem appeared. Next upgraded to build 10586, Same problem. Finally installed the latest cumulative update, and that did not solve the problem.

I used Windows 10 Pro x64 in all cases, in a Hyper-V virtual machine. The test system was a member of the domain controlled by a Windows server 2012 R2 system, which also acts as domain master browser, as confirmed on a Windows XP system with the browstat utility.

I suppose most denizens here already knew this, but anyway!

During the upgrade from one build to the next all security settings are return to default. This means you have to go through all settings and change as appropriate.

I suppose you mean privacy settings, not security settings?

Yes the privacy settings were all reset. However, I do not believe that these have anything to do with the problem at hand.

I did not change any security setting in the first (build 10240) installation, and I assumed that the subsequent upgrades did not change anything either.

Does net view give a 1231 error?

Run Sysinternals' ShareEnum. It tells me I don't have a domain or a workgroup!

All these errors are saying we can't communicate with the browser master I think. SMB version problem just introduced?
