Windows 10: Windows 10 1607 update to 1903 fail

My girlfriends kid brought his old computer from his dads house to ours..

Problem is that they've never heard of windows update or computer management ever, so when we tried to reinstall windows to reset is it to new it failed doing so after trying multiple solutions.. So we dropped it since it was his old computer anyways...

Now he complains that his computer keeps restarting for no reason, and I found out that it's because it's trying to update windows which is now running version 1607, and it wants to update to 1903.

It starts to update and reboots a few times after which it says that it goes back to the old version again. And so it goes again and again if you try to update it...


His father gave him this computer, and I don't know how or where they got this Windows, but when I try to alter different things on his computer, it sometimes say that I dont have permission because of some kind of group policy..


Anyone know how to fix any of this, reinstalling windows or getting the updates?

And what about installing a new windows.. Could I use the same as I'm using on my own computer?

Windows 10 fails to update


When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

 

Windows Updates failed to instal

I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time

Windows 10 1607 to 1703 Creators update fails with 0xC1900101 - 0x30018

Hi,

Normally, we suggest reverting back to the previous Windows update which is 1607. To do that, follow the steps below.

• Open Settings window.
• Click Update and Security, Recovery.
• Select Get Started, under Go back.

This is only a workaround that should work on your end.
