Ok so stupid question probably but ive been a computer tech for idk how long and i noticed my host file ( that i have meticulously worked on and done all the things needed for telementary settings) randomly changes to barely any addresses in it now im smart enuf to make a backup on my second hdd.

anyone know why this is happening no viruses found with my avast and malware bytes finds nothing

i also took ownership permission to the host and the host backup
quite annoying, just curious if anyone knows why

Like you, I have W10 Home 1703 15063.540 and I use a custom hosts file. What I don't have is Avast (or any other third-party AV). I do have Malwarebyes but it's not providing real time protection, it's only for on-demand scanning.

My Hosts file has never changed of its own accord, that suggests it's third-party software that's responsible. It could be Avast, it has been known to do so in the past. Making HOSTS read-only seemed to stop that. See...

You might prefer to use a dedicated Hosts file editor that should deal with the permissions issues properly:
    BlueLifeHosts editor

Whether that may stop sthg changing it then depends on whether it can access the file when the default permissions are applied. If so designed, all you can do is identify it. I would expect it to be some sort of malware/security software of the ilk of Spybot. Check to see what you have installed of that kind.
