Windows 10: Windows 10 (1809 17763.134) speaker setup reset to stereo after refresh rate change

there is a little bug in windows 10 october update 1809 17763.134.
tested with hdmi audio, Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G4600 - Graphics 630


i know that sound reverting to stereo after reboot... was a problem in earlier releases too.

this time sound is not reverting, but when openening control panel then endpoint is reverting to stereo.


Steps to Reproduce:
select 1920x1080 50 Hz and configure sound for 5.1 channel layout.
select 1920x1080 24 Hz

select 1920x1080 50 Hz

select 1920x1080 24 Hz --> now when you open Sound Settings, Audio Channel Layout shows stereo.

as long as you do not open Sound Settings - Channel Layout will stay at 5.1.

i think it only happens when switching from higher refresh rate to lower rate.

Refresh rate Problem

Screen refresh rate is the rate at which the data displayed on screen is refreshed; it may be an image or some text document. Most of the users would like to set it to a higher rate but this also depends on the capacity of graphic
card and monitors. If the refresh rate is slow, the images on the display looks as flickering to the user eye and makes it uncomfortable to work.

Nowadays the latest monitors available in market will have minimum 60 Hz of refresh rate and it is very good option to set it to 70 Hz if you your monitor is compatible. Normally a high performance or quality monitors can reach
120 Hz of refresh rate. So I would suggest you to set your monitor refresh rate as higher as possible, below given steps describes how to access this feature on your Windows 8.1/10 PC.

• The default refresh rate setting is 60 Hertz (HZ); however, your monitor may support a higher setting. Check your manufacturer's documentation for information about the settings that your monitor supports.
• If you use a higher refresh rate, you can reduce the rate that your screen flickers; however, if you specify a refresh rate that is too high for your monitor, your screen may become unusable and your hardware may be damaged.
• Changes to the refresh rate affect all users that log on to the computer.

I would, as of now, suggest you to visit the computer manufacturer's support website and install the latest display and chipset drivers available for the latest operating system (currently it would be 8.1 in the list).

Refresh rate is reset whenever the desktop resolution is changed

I've been a having a problem regarding resolution changes in Windows 10 Pro. I'm using a 1920x1080 @ 120Hz monitor. I'm also using two nVidia GeForce GTX 970s in SLI configuration. I've noticed that whenever I change the resolution in Windows my refresh
rate is always reset to 60Hz even though I've manually set it to 120Hz many times before. I've tried changing resolution by using nVidia Control Panel, in which case the refresh rate stays the same (at 120Hz) after the resolution change. This led me to believe
this might happen only when the change in resolution is handled by the OS, as I did not have this problem in Windows 7.

This is especially irritating when trying to use the nVidia Dynamic Super Resolution function in games which do not let me manually adjust the game's refresh rate. Everytime I turn on this supersampling-function the monitor resets it's refresh rate. This also
happens whenever I start up a fullscreen application that is not configured to run at native resolution. This makes me unable to use my monitors optimal refresh rate.

I was wondering if there is a solution to this problem. If not, is it possible to fix it in an upcoming update?

Is there a way to change the refresh rate in mail app for windows 10?
