Windows 10: Windows 10 1909 desktop icons keep flashing between the grey X and the Onedrive sync idon...

If i stop sync in onedrive for business the flashing stops I've logged out of onedrive for business and back in but the problem persists

WHY ARE THERE GREY X'S ON MY DESKTOP ICONS, AND HOW DO I REMOVE THEM?

In ccleaner, did you uncheck cleaning the icon cache... have not used in a while; however, I think that is what the option is called.

Now, if you are setting the icons and they move after you have set the settings and not changed them... you may have the "Random Windows 10 Icon movement problem".
Some people have this and some don't.

Windows 10 - Gray x's on some desktop icons

I was able to solve this problem. This is due to the constant sync between the desktop folders and Onedrive.

Go to the Onedrive icon on the tray icon section (below right of your laptop screen), and then RIGHT CLICK > Settings >Auto-Save

Change the "Desktop" default autosave destination from "Onedrive" to "This PC Only".

The next thing you will realise is that all the folders on your desktop will go missing.

If you still want them there, go to File Explorer, you will see "Onedrive" somewhere below the Quick Access panel on the left. Click on it, and you will then see "Desktop" folder under the Onedrive. Double click on this folder, and you will see all the folders
you previously had on your desktop (with the grey X) are all in here. Drag them all to the now desktop (which no longer sync with the Onedrive), and you shall see all the "X" gone, and that curved arrow back on each folder icon.
