Windows 10: Windows 10 1909 Will Not Install on the Hard drive.

I am in the process of installing Windows 10 Pro version 1909 on a number of desktop computers. I've done 4 so far. All good. Today I can't get Windows 10 to install as Install thinks that the boot hard drive does not have BIOS support.


Target Computer:


Dell Precision T3400 - BIOS A14

CPU: Socket 775 Duo Quad Q9650 @ 3.00GHz

RAM: 8 GB

Drive 0: 320 GB SATA Two Partitions: Boot 120GB, DATA1 180GB

Drive 1: 500 GB SATA DATA 2 full drive


Both drives are MBR.


BIOS recognizes both hard drives. Previous installed boot OS was Windows XP SP3 on a different 80GB SATA hard drive that was removed & replaced with the newer 320GB drive. When I boot from a CD to miniXP, all is good in Drive Management.


The 320GB Boot Drive was prepared in a Win10 Pro 1909 computer via an USB - SATA adapter - new partitions made & formatted, then physically installed in the Dell T3400 - my standard practice.

There is nothing on the boot drive - this is a clean install.


The install DVD was made from Microsoft's Win10 version 1909 64 bit iso file. I have the Win10 2004 iso as well but wanted to keep all the computers of the same version of Win10 before moving to 2004. I have not tried 2004.


I have checked every setting that deals with the hard drive in the BIOS. I've installed three times - Install always stops at the same place. At this point I'm not sure what my next steps should be. Ideas?


BTW: My first version of Windows that I installed was drum roll...... 1.02 way back in 1986ish. Never had an install error like this one.

Windows 10 1909 Causes Secondary Hard Drive to not be Recognized

Installing the Windows 10 1909 Update causes my secondary hard drive to not be recognized.

Steps to confirm issue:

• Secondary drive not visible in Windows Explorer
• Secondary drive not visible in device manager
• Secondary drive not visible in disk manager

Steps to replicate issue:

• Installing 1909 update

Steps to resolve issue:

• Uninstall 1909 update

Since updates can only be delayed for so long, an actual fix would be appreciated.

 

Hard drive/ OS issue

• unhooked HDD
• restarted
• yay !!
• reconnected HDD
• restarted
• yay !!
