Windows 10: Windows 10 2004 desktop icons disappear, showing movable little blue box in top left corner...

Ok,

here is the problem, sometimes on Windows 10s home converted from S to full on my child's Acer Spin1 laptop desktop icons sometimes disappear and the blue box is shown at the top left corner of the screen. I can move this box around but still another box is shown at the same place in the left top corner. If I double click the movable box, desktop icons are restored, after that, another blue box is still there in the corner and not movable after the icons are restored. If you kill explorer.exe and start it again via task manager the box disappears for a while.

When in the desktop mode of my windows 10, when I hover over the icon this little white select box shows up in the top left of the icon. I don't understand what it is? could someone please explain what it is for?

 

Erroneous symbols at the bottom left corner of desktop icons

I'm running Windows 10 with the latest updates. A few days ago, the icons for objects on the desktop changed appearance. The icons are correct but
all have a symbol at the bottom left corner:

• Shortcuts show the correct shortcut symbol
• All files erroneously show a shortcut symbol
• Almost all folders erroneously show a shortcut symbol
• Some folders erroneously show "X"

The icons for files and folders (including the Desktop folder) displayed using File Explorer are all normal.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

 

Desktop Icons hidden on startup & Small grey box in top left corner of screen

On start-up my windows PC has all the desktop icons hidden and there is a small grey box in the top left corner of the screen, the icons reappear when I double click this box, here is an after picture.





Any ideas on how I can fix this?
